First off, Thanks go out to Jstieger that wrote the thread on tips for installing any of the HTT line of turbos, That helped a bunch

Now then, the install when smooth - Though it would have been nice to have someone help, But it was getting sick of waiting (on a side not, THAT BOOGER (SP66) is heavy!!! and I'm only about 150lbs soakin wet)

Having the tire and wheel well liner out was SOOOOO nice, made the 15mm bolts alot easier to get off...

Now on to the results:

I'll be frank, When I first pulled out and gave a little fuel (after warmed up), I was very unhappy, it was super laggy, and the EGT was stupid high, and the smoke was really heavy, just as heavy as the with the stocker... I was thinking "why, oh why? did I want this thing" --- So I get home and put on the full exhaust (i was running with just the downpipe to go to sears and get a special socket to install the 4th bolt to hold the turbo on. . Yes, I ran with only 3 bolts holding that 38 lbs on the engine (in hind-sight, not the startest thing to do, BUT how else do you get there?) - I think that might be why the first run was terrible, I guess it leaking exh gas out and not spinning the turbo...

After the exhaust was back on, with muffler (thank the lord) - Things went a little different. The spool up was still slow, but only a little worst than stock... WIERD though, the truck felt "peppy" and no smoke till 12psi, Gotta love the singles program :{ , This turbo needs the TWINS program BAD!! - But after 12psi, it would absolutely rip, BUT the EGTs would still hit 1400 on a run up to 100 mph, I'm like WTF? I though my EGT problem would be almost gone... Well anyway I guess I under estimate the fueling capability of the TST, because this truck was at 105mph, and at redline WAY faster than with the stock turbo... THe dyno will tell it all

BTW - level 5/4 feels about like 6/5 did with the stocker, AND the egts leveled at about 1350* --- We will see after a few weeks if it loosens up

Some pics for your enjoyment:

Great job Tommy, nice pics too, I had heard this thing was a little laggy but the egt does surprise me some. I'll be interested to see what she does on the dyno, when you gonna dyno??? Everything might have went smoother if you would have had a decent brand of beer!!!!!!! :-laf :-laf :-laf

Ohh yeah

Two more things:

1) Cutting on a $300 intake is very sucky (to make room for the intercooler piping, But you gotta do whatcha gotta do :{

2) the stock rubber intake hose from the turbo to the AFE is VERY,VERY,VERY tight fit between the compressor outlet and the shield on the exh manifold... Looks like a torque tube is in my future

One last thing, At 38psi on the stocker, I would NEVER pull the filter minder down, BUT with this SP66 at the SAME psi, the sucker is WAY down, like its telling me I need a new filter pretty darn soon, Food for thought

HAHAHA, the best part is those are 24 ounce tall boys, I dont play games!

And if they will fit me in, I will dyno tomorrow at the same place I always do, I hope to break 500 in a very bad way :p

THE egt was me really confused too, maybe the HP is wasy over what I was at before... I have no idea... All I know is that when I did 458 on the stocker, it was at 1700* in 5. 61 seconds

That will be a great comparison - I will try to hit 458, and see what EGT i hit

Tom,

The Twins program is not that much different, although you should get it.

What I do think will help you more is a bullydog dowloader flash.

I flashed mine on the 90hp setting and then I have the option to turn on the TST and TS for more power!!

I'm a bit scared of the whole downloader thing, But if the Twins program does not help the fuel down low. I may try one of Quads, I know he has a few laying around I bet he'd sell cheap (pretty close to the same, right?)

It is SOOOOO obvious when the TST gets going, right about 11-12psi, here she come, Smoke at all! - SO with the 4psi start of the twins program, I can't imagine that it would not help a ton. . we will see

The big ? is, what the heckto drive while waiting for the TST to get back when I send it off? - I hope the little ol' EZ can spool this monster :-laf , at least enough to get to work :D

Isn't the Twins program just the aggressive original program that would let all hell let loose at 5-5 and up? That was my first program but after reflash heck I tow on 5-5 now and need to go up to 8-8 to feel like old 5-5

Hey Tommy,

The twins program should help because it doesent wait to see boost before it fuels,I have a turbo that makes the 66 look small and it drives fine with the TQ on the box turned up. Dyno that thing so we can see what she does!

Will do, and one other thing - Whats your cruising temps with the B1?

Cause mine are like 800-900, but I may have been on an incline, I will check today with flat hwy

cya!

Its a 14cm housing and a B1-KSB is a 12cm.

Thanks! Finally someone who directly answers a question with technical specs. Can you talk about the differences between the 66s and a B1-2-4 and B1-4. Also, the differences between the -4 B1s and the regular B1-2 and B1? Thanks

Tomey,

That looks like the stock exhaust manifold! I think the ATS two piece would be a good investment. I never liked the way the stock one has four cylinders into one half and two into the other!!

Actually it's 3 and 3, but cylinders 4 and 5 are siamesed together with the outlet 90* off of the runner!

Tomey that TST can really be a cooker, it's killed lots of turbos when turned up. A freer air filter should help EGTs, obviously you've run out of filter.

That is a much better description of the stock setup! I know when I compared it to the ATS when I did my setup I was really impressed with thier design.

Your not kidding! - I did not think it was THAT clogged up, But the SP66 proved it, And to think the stocker never even moved the little indicator

Tom, do you have a link to the thread you mentioned earlier for Jstieger about installing the HTT turbos? I'm still leaning that way and hopefully Paul will have some more of those Sledpullers ready soon.

I printed that post and it helped a ton!

PS - I dynoed yesterday and with the slower-fueling TST program, I hit 496 hp...

Darn it, missed by 4hp -- and 946 torq BTW

I will post dyno sheets later

And I am for sure getting the twins program, Cause waiting till 12psi before the TST gets'a'moving just plain sucks... But from 12-46 psi, it is like lightning
