Yes, it's fairly easy accessible from the top. My profile goes over the full width of the insulation and keeps it up there.
I did the same underneath the truck but used the stems already there, they have Metric Thread on them.
I formed some Kydex in the oven.
Then drilled holes in the center of the rubber plugs at the bottom of the cowl plenum. (after removing them)
(They are used to access something at the back of the head, I think…)
The dimples are deep enough to snug the screws (M5?) and not crush the insulation.
The screws are in the rubber plugs (through bolted with lock nuts) to reduce sound transfer into the cab.
No just my english isn't that good, im not a native speaker.
In German we can shorten sentences to a good amount if something was mentioned earlier. Gives a faster conversation.
I meant that the aluminum u-profile i used is about 2 feet long and holds up the insulation full width under the cowling. I liked that idea better then just a big washer.
@Ozymandias can get "lost in translation". He's been through most of the headaches that most of us would have caused a meltdown! He's had the travel in remote places with just a "bush" box to get back on the road. @Ozymandias, Just a little ribbing with love!
My firewall insulation is doing the exact same thing. It was originally retained by the plastic conduit that runs across the firewall on an '03 but has come loose. Have to take some stuff apart to get it back up in place and secured.
Sounds like ill have to drill a couple holes some how.... Can I even get a drill in there next to the valve cover to drill upward ?
Or do you take that plastic piece off above between the windsheild and hood and drill downward and make sure you arent accidentally drilling into anything you dont want to puncture?
I'd put in a couple a rivinuts to only have to pull the cowl the first time. That way, you could remove holder to move insulation out of the way if needed. HF has a decent kit for most uses and can get refills online for good $. Have a HF unit and a more expensive unit and they work the exact same! It opens up a whole new way of repairs and or mods! I've used it in places instead of using pop rivets. That way you can take apart or open up if needed down the road. JM2C.
