I forgot to mention its 3. 10 Pin height Higher (2nd,3rd Gens) ... ..... So Be Careful of the bed rails if You DO NOT change the Draw Bar height on all GNs, I would hate to see someone smash the rails in and out of parking lots. Even though No one has the Ball for Factory Installed GN/5th hitch at this time... ... ... ...

Ok, I just scaled at the Shamrock, cross the scale here 100s of times it right on, Truck 2013 3500 SRW Front axle 5300- Rear 3300 Me and full Tank of Fuel. 8600lbs, its 1200 heavier then My 12,05,03 empty.

Edit: All My trucks are 3500s

Dang that truck is made out of iron! My '01 2500 GVW is 8800, only 200# more than your empty truck:eek:

My local dealer still don't have any 3500's so I still haven't seen one.

What's the config on your 05? DRW or SRW? My 05 is about 8100 with me in it, thou there are a few bolt on items (filters, receiver hitches, etc) but it's a heavy truck. 8400lbs with the normal stuff in the tool box for summer. QC LB 4x4 SRW NV5600.

The 03/05 is SWR 3500 CC,2012 CC 3500 all LBs, I cross the scales all the Time with the 03/05, BC the Dumping rate is configure by tonnage, the 03 with the In bed Auxiliary Tank (90 Gals) Pump ,GN hitch, tools, factory tank full, ETC 8425lbs, 7450 03/05 empty New if Memory serve Me correctly, the 05 is 7675 Now, I've seen 100s of trucks weight at the pulls most factory puller 7600lbs, Its all those filters HeeeeeeHeee, just having some fun with AH64ID.

I know I am going to get HAMMERED for this but here go’s.

Would not everyone agree that the entire drive train must be taken into account when one designs a truck for towing? Such as engine horsepower/torque, the transmission gearing, the differential ratios and the tire/rim size to establish what a truck should be able to pull efficiently and is rated for. The older model trucks had a less capable engine such as engine horsepower and torque than the 2013 engine has; agreed?

Will therefore to tow the same mass that the older trucks are capable of and maybe slightly more today with the updated model of the 2013 truck. The deferential gearing was lowered to provide a more efficient truck for towing and driving when not towing. I read somewhere on a different site that Ram had responded to this question about differential gearing. Ram stated that since the engine has more torque ability and horsepower now the differential gearing could be lower for maximum ability towing on the SRW trucks and still be fuel efficient. Now this all goes out the window if you use larger rims/tires than the powertrain engineer designed for.

Remember also Ram has been hammered for fuel efficiency on the 6. 7L engines since they have been introduce.

This should be a good question to ask at the CMEP tour in June; I will try to remember and ask if no one else ask.

OK let the HAMMERING begin!!!

part of the issue with poor fuel economy still stems from the decision to only address NOx with EGR prior to MY2013. I know they banked emissions credits by meeting the stringent 2010 standards with the 2007. 5 trucks but it really did cost owners in the long run with the poor fuel economy, shortened oil change intervals and downtime with faulty emissions equipment. That's not to say that SCR systems will eliminate that but the chemistry behind SCR is solid and the early returns are promising... not 12valve promising but much better than the outgoing 2012's did without deletes.

I still think the limit on gear selection is a bad decision on someone's part. The 3. 42's will no doubt handle what the engineer's say it will (I'm a structural engineer and understand the process) but when you run the numbers on even say a 33" tall tire you're looking at turning around 1500 RPM at 70mph if you're in 6th or about 2000 RPM at 70 mph in 5th. I know it's not Ram's concern what the end user decides to do for wheels and tires but it seems foolish to not allow 3. 73's and 4. 10's like previous years. 3. 73's look to be a great match for 33" tires with 2000RPM not coming until about 85mph...

I agree. Also, not addressed but load startability, particularly on grades, is significantly influenced by differential gearing choices.

Yeah, those things get heavy :)

8425 seems very light, considering 800+ lbs of diesel.

My truck just seems heavy, Dodge claims it was 7259 curb, so I guess it's possible I have that much extra crap. . just can't add it all up when I think about it.
