Well, these old first gens with no electronic system controls are looking better all the time. I have a 2001 Ford gasser company truck that I took in today to have a couple of oil leaks fixed. While in there I figured I'd have the spark plugs changed since it has 80,000 miles on it and still has the original plugs (supposed to last 100K). When the guy in the Ford garage gave me an estimate JUST for the plugs, I told him to forget it. (after I got back up off the floor) He estimated 4 hours and $400 just for that!  I don't have to pay for this since it is a company truck but I'll be damned if I'll pay that for a plug change, my money or not.

Anyone ever hear of a set of plugs and labor costing this much?

The old Dodge just keeps looking better and better. Guess I'll have to keep the old girl and do a little more pampering to keep her happy. :)

The wife just HAD to have a Cadillac. We got a 97, with 90,000 on it. It's a great car and has run great, but the alternator just went out. It cost $400 for that. I'm trying for a set of shop manuals right now.

As far as our trucks go, can't beat em for work space under the hood. How the h*ll do those 2nd gen guys do anything? Now having gone from a 90 to a 93, I hate having the TPS over the pump. It's seems crowded... . until I look at a new one.

Furds... . where do I start? Never owned one, except a dump truck I bought temporarily to haul some rock, then sold. I have worked on several for friends and family. In my experience, they are typically more difficult to work on than others. Usually too much junk crammed under the hood to get to anything important like plugs.

Lovin' my first gen... . :D

Got that right!!I've got this Ford ranger, run about type truck, can't see the plugs to save my life. Little 2. 3 four banger, as if that's not enough, they go and put plugs on each side of the cyl head:rolleyes: eight in all.

The wife's neon has 'em right on top ;)

Hugged Your Cummins Today?

They are a bit unusual tho I have a 62 ford unibody Pick up mounted on a 74 F250 by chassis 390 runs pretty strong, a 45 Ford GPW (Military Jeep) Scout Axles and a Buick 231 w/turbocharger out of a 79 Turbo Regal Runs like a cat that has been turpentined, a 65 Cadillac Superior Crown Royale landau hearse Stock (for now) 429 only 300 built. You know why they made our trucks with all that room right from the factory:confused:

While getting out of my truck today at the local NAPA store two guys pulled up in a chev pickup and the older gent says to me "don't ever sell that truck-that's a keeper". :) :)

If you folks think the second gen. is hard to work on, take a peek under the third gen. hood. I will keep my good running "93" for awhile yet. I'm too old to fight a common oil & filter change.

Don't know about the Furd but on a Dodge Stealth you have to take the top piece of the 2 piece intake off to get at the plugs on the rear head and just the cost of the gasket would make you scream.

JFitzgerald,

Haven't figured out yet how to post pictures directly to this thread, but if you click under my name " View Reader's Rigs Gallery" you will find a few pictures of my pride and joy. :)
