"Dial A Drive" = Electric Transfer case to shift in/out of 2WD/4HI/4LO. To shift you simply twist the dial located on the dash panel. (as opposed to the manual shift located on the floor)

To add to PatrickCampbell's post "practice makes perfect". Spend as much time as you can with this wheather to get the feel of our trucks. I've only got about a dozen hours on slick roads this year without other vehicles nearby. Truck handles like a dream. I thought the cummins on the front end would be a concern, but it has been a benifit in my opinion. I'm slowly getting more comfortable without becoming overconfident of the wheight of our trucks. Slow and steady and a whole lot of fun ! BTW , does the electric tranfer case selector make the tell-tale clunk/clack when the throttle is backed off after going from 4hi to 2hi. Not complaining , just use that as a indicator that T-case is where I asked it to be. Mark T.

Never noticed the clunk, but my hearing is not the best. I sure agree with you about the slow steady. Great traction, but if you get the centrifical force working against you, you are done. I wish some of the suv drivers would understand that traction is not the only factor in slippery driving:( .

Just be careful not to be in the middle of a sharp turn, say turning around. and selecting the 4WD in the middle of the turn. IT WILL MAKE A NOISE THEN.

IMHO, one of the biggest gripes I have against coil spring front ends is the propensity to hop. My old 65 F250 4x4 had no hop, just a steady rocking when the going got tough, i. e. deep snows. My first experience with this was with a friend who had a cheby with the coils on the front - hippity hop, pound pound, come to a stop.

Made me a believer in leaf springs on the front. Oh, but then the ride might be truck-like. :D

If you think the 3rd gens work good in snow and ice, try off-roading on some sand dunes and steep hills! They climb and get around in the tough stuff pretty darn good. I used to own a couple of Jeep Cherokees with off-road packages. I'll take my '03 CTD most anywhere I'd take my Jeeps, and then go back to camp and hook up the 5th wheel and ATV trailer and drive, drive, drive home! Those 3 foot deep snow drifts didn't have a chance of staying intact yesterday!
