Observations with new truck

I had 4 free oil changes from the dealer. So today I changed the oil and filters for the first time.

Let me start by saying that I installed an amsoil bypass filter in July after my last free oil change this past June.

The amsoil bypass filter was full of oil to the top. But the full flow mopar filter was not full of oil. It was sbout 3/4 full of oil. Or maybe just over 1/2 full. Or somewhere between 1/2 & 3/4 full. I expected oil to come rushing out as I removed the filter but it didn't.

Should I be worried?

For my 06, when I pull the main filter it's about 1" from the top and the same with the Amsoil bypass filter. But before I pull them I open the return to my valve cover and lay it high above the bypass filter. It seems to allow the level to gravitate back and lower the levels. But even if I let them set for 15 minutes, 20 or 30, they never go below the stated levels. Try that and see if the bypass will be manageable. Not sure what numa level it will seek for the 13 model year for the main filter.

I think when it went through an active regeneration a couple of days ago, it diluted the oil with fuel. Noticed the oil level was higher slightly. May also be from mostly city driving this month. Decided to change the oil despite the EVIC saying 75% life left on the oil

The full flow will slowly and partially drain out while sitting to about 2/3 full. This is normal and why many Cummins owners let their trucks sit for a few hours before removing the oil filter.

The bypass won't do that based on the routing of the plumbing and filter location.

The EVIC %age of fuel left is based on fuel dilution and many other things. If one single active regeneration is enough to make a visible difference in oil quantity then something is WRONG.

Thanks for your input gentlemen. I don't know there was significant fuel dilution. But changed it as a precaution.

I saw another guy on this forum talking about his truck "making oil" because of the oil level rising on the dipstick.

I document and keep receipts of my oil changes. I was going to wait until Thanksgiving to change the oil & filters.
But decided to do it today.

Truck runs like the beast that it is. Have 2300 miles towing since oil change last June. But also have 1500 miles of local driving.
