First time for posting a question, long time reader. Just decided to buy 2004 (not 600) 2500 Quad 4x4, auto, laramie, short box, tow package, heated seats, all the good stuff. Found a beautiful bright silver truck on the lot. Window sticker $46,760. I have been reading all about "fair" prices for months on this fine forumn. Around 1 - 2 % below dealer invoice. Invoice around 12% below MSRP etc. Well when I got to talking with dealer the MSRP dropped to $43,780 (No real explanation just down almost $3,000). Showed me the invoice of $39,500, with $1,300. 00 as "hold back. " Here is his "deal:" $39,500 minus the $2,000 rebate (I was looking at the 0% finance) makes $37,500. He then said, "Now I have to add back in the dealer profit of $1,300!" Now I may have misread in past posts, but I thought the dealer got the "hold back" no matter what price the vehicle sold for. I suggested $37,000 + ($457. 00 license fees) for $37,457 "out the door. " He disagreed with my logic or understanding of "hold back" money. Am I all wrong? Doesn't Chrysler pay the rebate and "hold back" to dealer? Dealer's last offer was $39,500 with rebate already subtracted , but including license fees. (No sales tax in Alaska. ) I walked and that's the end of my buying from this dealer. The "big silver beauty" did have one interesting option: a Webasto installed. Anyone heard of a Webasto on a truck? I drive big tour buses with Webasto, but not pickups. Dealer didn't know the price of the Webasto? Sorry this is so long. Thanks for all the super advise and words of wisdom. Buying in Alaska can be frustrating. I really want to make the move to Dodge, but not at these prices. Shipping seems to be the problem, $950 - 1,000 from Seattle by barge. Flying down to lower 48 is also expensive!
