I have just joined the registry, this is my first post to the forum and need some advice on two issues. (1) I have a 95 CTD, and would have been reading about this killer dowel pin problem. I would like to have the modification done to my truck, so this problem does not haunt me in the future, but I need to find a competent mechanic in the Atlanta area to fix up. I was given a name of a guy, who is in GA but real far from where I am. I will use him if I don't get any other feedback on a closer knowledgeable person. I am in Marietta. I have searched the forum and have seen the name of Jeff Garmon, but I do no have a phone number to get in touch with him.

(2) I luv my truck except for that for the automatic transmission. I bought the truck used with 60k miles 1. 5 years ago and within a few thousand miles after that I had to have the whole transmission rebuilt. Thank God, I got the dealer to throw in an after market warranty. How long do auto transmission's last ? It seems like I have no acceleration until the overdrive hookup, and I am told that is normal. The only thing I tow is a motorcycle trailer, the truck does not even know if is on there. Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the transmission ?? I plan on keeping this truck a long time. I currently only have 92k miles on it with about 20K miles on the rebuilt transmission.

Thanks,

Bill

Welcome to the TDR Bill! I have had my 95 over two years now and love it. The wealth of information available on here is priceless.

The KDP issue is something that should be taken care of. I did mine and it wasn't that difficult. I tabbed it because I wanted to see how far it had moved, plus I didn't want to get on a waiting list for a jig. I got my tab from R. ebel, it comes with complete instructions that any competent mechanic could follow.

Your transmission would benefit greatly from one of the good aftermarket torque converters and possibly a valve body. With it being a fresh rebuild and no harder than you work it, with regular maintenance it should last a long time. I have 155k on the original transmission but do have an aftermarket converter, but outdated:rolleyes: . I use a switch to keep my converter unlocked until I let off the throttle a little. I don't like to let it engage under heavy power.

Keep reading and learn all you can, enjoy your truck to it's fullest. :D

The KDP is a real easy fix you can do it,it has all the instructions on how to,and give you everything you will need... it only take a couple of hrs to do... . you will be suprised on how easy it is... The transmission one thing you could do i contact Bill at DTT trans http://www.dieseltrans.com/ he can give you all the answers..... Rick

Get on the list for the kdp jig in your area, wait isn't long. If you can change your own oil you can do the jig fix.

As long as you don't increase hp way beyond the transmission's design perimeters it will last a long time. Most important thing is to keep the OD off unless you're going over 50 mph.

Hey Bill I got 10 e-mails of you replying to this post:confused: :--)

OBTW----WFavara..... Listen to Illflem he knows what he is talking about...

;)

Definitely don't hesitate on the KDP. Mine was as close to death as close could be! I drove a truck with the suncoast converter in it and WOW what a difference. You've got all the reading on transmissions you could ever want. www.suncoastconverters.com. check this site out they are in Florida. Good luck and have a blast. :D

10 emails ?

Rjones - sorry I did not understand your reply. 10 emails of me replying to the post ? I only posted it once ??

As far as doing the fix myself, well let's just say I am challenged when it comes to mechanics. I would be glad to pay someone locally to do the KDP fix.

rj, I don't know what's up with the 10 emails. But when I tried to reply to this thread it just sat there so I opened a new browser window and just continued on. Half hour later it was still sitting there, I didn't think it had even posted my message.
