DTT Trans

Hi Don, if you would like to drive a DTT trans equiped truck, email me and I'll send you my phone #. We can try to coordinate our schedules. I'm a bit of a drive from Grand Rapids, probably the better part of two hours to get to Holly.

But if you are considering upgrading your trans, I would highly recommend DTT and driving one. I hesitated for months, because I couldn't find one local to drive. Finally I went ahead and did the install. I couldn't be more pleased with the upgrades.

Enjoy your 'new' truck, Greg L

Hi Greg

Thanks for the offer. A DTT transmission is on my list of things to look at but it probably won’t be till later this summer at the earliest. There is a number of things I need to do ahead of the transmission, one being becoming more familiar with a diesel truck. It’s unlike anything I’ve owned in the past. Cooker has also offered a ride and I may take advantage of both offers. I’m the type that likes to research a project before I jump into it (drives my wife to distraction sometimes!).

I know where Holly is located. We have a friend that lives in Sterling Heights and maybe we can put something together when we visit him this summer.

Don, a quick way to see if your grid heaters are working for you is to see if your headlights flicker on and off at idle right after you start your truck up cold. They should cycle for quite a while at idle with a cold engine. I can hear my defroster fan change speed because of the grid heaters also. Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the clue on the grid heater operation. I watched the lights and voltmeter when I started the truck this evening and the heaters appear to be working. There is a definite dimming of the instrument lights when the heaters cycle on. The voltmeter also showed a dip in voltage each time the lights dimmed.

I had the block heater plugged in for 3 hours before I started it this morning and the engine would idle after about 3-4 seconds of running. ` The idle speed was about 700 RPM when the engine was cold. The outside temp was 30 degrees. After the engine warmed up the idle was a little over 800 RPM. Maybe what I am seeing is normal for a cold diesel engine.

The tach calibration had me going for a bit today. I am used to tachs that have four small 100 RPM marks between the major indicies. It took a while for me to realize there are only three small marks on this tach, each one representing 125 RPM.

Now that I’ve driven it for a few days and I’m becoming accustomed to the sounds and feel I think this is going to be a fun truck to drive. I’ve driven “transportation “ for the past 7 years and I am ready for a little fun again!
