Fuel Oil in an 03?

DSE processing problems

Finally got a chance to make a pull running B100. Neighbor came by and asked me if I could move his 5er for him his buddy broke down and could not do it. He has a Wilderness triple slide looked to be about 35ft or longer. The sticker inside said dry weight was 12k. Him and his wife are full time so throw in all their stuff and whatever was in the waste tanks. Let's just say 12. 5k for the sake of argument.

In all honesty I did not know what to expect being that B100 has less BTU's than #2 and there is a loss of power due to that. I noticed no difference at all, there were no big hills just the typical you find on the freeway. Truck ran like it was not back there, I could accelerate with ease. I did not see any noticeable drop in EGT's not sure if i would or not. I did notice that was virtually no smoke at all if there was it was so faint I did not see it.

Overall I was very impressed with the way the I could pull that thing and the weight is about the same as my 5er so I know now how well I can pull mine.

Bio-good

I've been using B5 & B20 regularly for a few months. I just finnished my summer trailer-towing vacation, 2-weeks and 3500 miles from Vegas to Seattle and all states in-between. Prior to the trip, I researched BioDiesel.org to find biodiesel retailers on my route. Unfortunately, biodiesel is not too easy to find in the western states. I managed B5, B20, B99, or B100 on most fuel stops, #2 on the rest. Granted, each fill-up resulted in some unknown ratio of those concentrations. However, I did fill B100 and B99 back-to-back. The engine was noticably quieter and certainly smelled different. It was harder to smoke, though my wife, bless her heavy foot, managed a few clouds behind our 53-ft rig. If there was any decrease in power, I didn't notice. I averaged 12 MPG at about 18K gross for the trip, much of which was mountainous. (Smarty on #3 + F1 mach 1. 6 injectors), pretty much have to drive by the temp gauges anyway.

Here in Las Vegas, there is only one retailer of B20, for which you need a gascard account. It costs more than #2 on the street and is out of my way, so I go out of my way and pay more to at least use B20 :--)

That's what I do :p

Cheers,

Neil, I see Rebel now has the new ULSD, stuff is as clear as water. Any idea if the B5 at Sinclair is going to be using the ULSD, the way I read it, the answer is yes. Asked the broad behind the counter last week and she just kinda stared off into outer space, go figure.

Adding bio to the new ULSD will help it greatly. According to all the info I have seen on bio by adding just 1% increases lubricity by up 60%.

Yeah. . if you're just after lubricity. . B5 is the perfect match. And, it's OK with Cummins ( not that it matters).

I think I've been getting ULSD for sometime now. It is clear as gin and stations have been using it to clean their tanks so it meets spec before they can sell it as ULSD.

I don't know if Sinclair is on ULSD yet, it's just a matter of time though. I wouldn't bother asking a convenience store employee about their fuel specs. Sinclair's fuel in Las Vegas comes from Haycock Petroleum <info@haycockpetroleum.com>, you'd be better off asking them.

As for other parts of the country, you could start your search at http://www.biodiesel.org.
