Hoe Handle Engineering...

Don, I have a 1988 v6 four speed half ton gasser that I think would make the trip to Texas. I would drive it that far anyway. It has fair tires and the A/C - heating works great, the AM/FM radio even works. The right front fender is ruined and the right door is bent from the mirror striking a parked truck. It has some right bed side damage, nothing like yours does. I would be glad to share photos, it used very little oil and was 130,000? mile truck. I drove it all the time, for about a year, then my step-son took over. He left the keys at a girl's house and her boy-friend stole it for a little joyride and crashed it. A 1968 F-250 bed and rear bumper proved to be more than just a match for the old Dodge. It hit just outside the grill and raked the right fender pretty hard. We had a few heated words over responsibility and he got mad and moved out. 300 dollars would buy it and I am pretty sure you can drive it home, it has been sitting for about six months. Somebody else will have to chip in on whether or not a 1988 shares sheetmetal. It was an old soil conservation truck, white with tan interior, plain, no cruise, no carpet, no electric locks or windows. The cab is good and solid though, no rot. Glen

Good Things Already

OK, that is the type things I am looking for! She is rough in that the headliner is falling down, windshield total shot etc, but up close it is really not so bad. And it IS an LE cab. Absolutely no rust ever (Texas Truck you know. ) The fu---, uh CLASSIC fiberglass fender for my skills is an cheap and easy fix.

The bumpers are a work of art in themselves, the photos do not do them justice. They are steel molded with some of that bedliner spray on them. Kinda neat really.

I am just looking for a project to restore for the fun of it, I don't really need a truck, I always wanted one when they were new, but you know, money etc.

ggsoldan: My goodness what happens when you are not paying attention, I did not even know they made a V6 half ton in 88! Got a photo? I got a brother in Topeka, might work something out there.

don, if you don't drive it home, i'd be more than happy to come pick that poor thing outa the weeds. it's already in better shape than most of the crap i drive. not including the truck in my sig, ;)

It would probably be worth $500 for you as parts for the motor home saga ;) . I know i'm gonna get strung up for saying it! (parts)

Sure Wish I Lived There

Gosh, if I lived in New London WI, I would not have to drive all the way up there every year to get to Oskosh!

Can't get it off my mind

Still interested in this truck (photos below) , it is a 93 dually with automatic. The Auto has an OD position, so what transmission would this be? Does it have a lockup torque converter?

If you are talking about the truck at the top of the post, then it came factory equipped with a 518. It is a auto OD without a lock up convertor. The lockup convertors were introduced behind diesels in 1994 with the new body style.

OK I missed this. What's going on??? Is this grey 1ton dually 1st gen for sale? $500??????? Uh... whats the catch? Runs? Title good? I'll take it:D!

MMiller: Thanks, that is what I was searching for exactly. Can it be upgraded with a lockup TC from a 94?

BGilbert: Yep, runs swell, good title, loose front end, windshield full of holes, headliner falling down, needs hood and a fender, No rust at all ever, Texas Truck. I love restoration projects, am considering this for one.

Don, is that truck in an open flat area wheras if I was to get close w/ binoculars I could see it? And what part of Texas was that again?

Ha ha, no it is locked up in a fenced yard with dozens of othe abandoned "projects" that will never be worked on by the the current owner, in fact he bought it ONLY for the engine, to put in something else in case it showed up, and as you can see is being used as a storage item. I have the combination to the gate lock, the guy is a good friend of mine.

Now Don, sounds like you already have plenty of projects in front of you, and you don't need another one. This is too much work considering you have a 1st gen House to get running :p. So you outta just let me buy it:-laf!!

Shucks, at the rate I am going, I can get a fifth wheel RV :-laf trailer and pull it with a lst Gen that actually starts!

A 47rh can be swapped in to get a lockup convertor auto. I don't think its feesable to make a lockup convertor work in a 518. I dunno exactly what other pieces it takes to put a 47rh in a first gen.

Michael

It doesn't, you already have a 518 in a 93. They are talking about converting a 727 (3sp no OD) to a 518. I think you really should just sell me this truck LOL...

It is just as feasible to make a 618 out of a 518 as buying a 618, sometimes cheaper also. The cases are almost exactly the same. Only difference a few internal parts and the wiring connector.

It only takes 2 pieces to swap a lockup trans into a gen1, engine adapter and starter. The rest is just minor mods.

On the other side of things, just think what a monster of a 727 that can be built with 48RE parts. ;)

Playing with it.

I was in the area last weekend, and stopped by to look this one ton dually over some more, one of those things I just gotta have, but haven't got the owner to give me a price yet. It has an old small car battery in it, and it starts almost before you can hear the starter engage, and runs soooooooooo pretty. I think I can see why the lst genners are so proud of their trucks.
