I test drove a new 05 2500 quad cab 6 speed over the weekend and really don't know what to think of it. Maybe I've been driving gassers for too long. Didn't act like it had the power everyone suggests in these forums. It did loaf along at a steady cruise though, like it was just idling. Shifting through the gears seemed like it ran out of RPM before i needed to shift. With a red line of only 3200 I could see why. Low rpm motor, will take some getting used to. Stepping down on the accelerator didn't seem to do anything at first, then all of a sudden it would take off. New truck I didn't really want to trash it. The CTD must need to be loaded before it comes alive??

It also needs to be broken in a bit. When I first picked mine up it seemed like it had trouble getting out of its own way. Now that its broken in most have to get out of my way. The power this engine puts out still amazes me when I step on the pedal. I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with the Cummins once you finally get to own one. :)

Properly set up and broken in, the Cummins is no slouch - but hook it to a hefty load, head it up grades you have previously traveled on in a gasser, and,  :--)

PMcBride,
You will find that the power is slow up to 2000 rpm, if it takes off after 2000,feel lucky. You have a virgin engine control module. Read TSB 18-037-04 warning.

Mine's got some fairly serious power (for a stock machine) from ~1900-3200 or so power wise. I do wish they had a more aggressive fueling program below there to help spool the turbo a little quicker. It's definitely more powerful than the 92 Chevy with a 350 I had previously.

I'm sure the transmission does not like it much, but if you go ahead and powershift it like it was a muscle car, it'll move quite well, and probably well enough to at least surprise most vehicles that'll pull up next to you...

Just got an 05 today drove both auto and 6ser auto felt like it had more power than the 6 speed. I have always had a stick but swiched to a auto hard to drive a double disk in denver traffic. But new 05 is awsome it rides even better than my 03. I can't hear anything under the hood or at the rear so let the bombs begin.

Have a Motorhome (Class A) wirh a Chevy 7. 4 (454) and a full Banks kit and a Jacobs Ignition System (never met a MH I did not pass!!!). It is a dog next to my truck. I drove them both cross country last Jan (04) from Redondo Beach,CA to Edisto Beach,SC (2800 MILES). With the Banks it was faster than any MH I had met. Do not get me wrong this MH is quick but not as powerful as my truck. I would like to put a Cummins in the Motor Home. Just no power when you get on it.

After reading all the pro and con aboutthe reflash, I still say GET THE REFLASH!. . My truck has not lost one bit of power. But, Im not one of the guys that smokes the tires at every green light. Im also not one of the few that buys the truck and then wants to sue Dodge because they have buyers remorse. My comment is, if you don't like what you bought, sell it and go buy that Chevy or Ford and cry on their website about their issues.
