92 d350 5spd 2wd new to forum and learning how to coordinated and what the "SOP's" are. But having
some issues with the ole' 5 speed and don't want to give up on her just yet.

Problem began with the master cylinder or slave cylinder taking a crap on me mid- commute. So here I was pulling my 37' gooseneck trying to cross a somewhat busy blacktop with scary blind spot with cross traffic unaware that I've got the whole intersection completely blocked off. ... See where i I'm going with this... This is when the darn thing decided it'd hiccup. Ok my problem is through my frantic oh s*** moment I'm hoping (maybe) that I might have gotten a little rough and bent a shift fork or something. Cuz now it won't keep itself in any gear very well. And seems like when I let out of the throttle it feels like an engine mount is broke the shifter moves so much... Previous owner modified the shifter and during that (oh s***) moment it broke. So am I looking at pulling off the top plate? Or much worse? Story still trying to learn how to use this forum.

I don't really want to give up on the 5-speed I've had good luck with this getrag I pull with it all the time and pretty much it's hole life it has had compounds in front of it I always run some Lucas and I keep it about a quart or 2 over full all the time

You need to find a good shop with good transmission mechanics-not a parts jerking overhaul mill! On one the problems with the proliferation of the sledgeomatic is that not only was the quality of operators degraded, the quality of experience in people who could "overhaul" a transmission was degraded. Heck, blast it with the steam cleaner, slap in a new valve pack or tighten up the bands, squirt it with some Krylon and you've got an "overhauled" automatic transmission...

How much weight are you putting on the truck with that Gooseneck trailer? The Getrag is not a bad transmission but it does not tolerate (from my understanding-my Dad didn't hurt the one in the '93 D-250 and I've still got her-she's not running right now but that's a different sad story.) being overloaded well. With the overfill you were doing-if the fluid was being changed on schedule-it should have stayed fairly cool but I don't know enough other than to say anything more than you need someone really well qualified to make an estimation...

I headed the "Getrag" project. Mostly it was about what to do about the high failure rate we were having. I wrote the results of that project here on this site. Everything you need to know about the Getrag G360 is archived here on this site under my user name "Mysteryman" If you still need help rebuilding it after reading all of that . If you ship it to me I will rebuild it for you and ship it back to you. It would do you well to read all my posts on the 1st gen trucks on here. I am one of the few left living that developed them. My days are numbered sad to say !

@mysteryman glad to see your post, your posts have always been informative to read over the years, while I've only been on here since 2015 I have read alot of your posts. Thanks for all you have contributed to the TDR and the overall CTD community as a whole. Have a good day!
