I pulled my trailer (about 7000# total) for the second time this weekend. Between this weekend and last I’ve pulled about 1,000 miles—3,500 miles on the truck. It pulls so much better than my V10 did. I've heard people say that they think the V10 pulls better, but I don't think so--at least not better than the V10 with auto and 3. 55 gears. The Cummins will accelerate up a steep hill in 5th gear pulling 7000#'s, where the V10 would be fighting to maintain speed in 2nd gear.
Averaging about 12-13 mpg towing, and this is with having fun breaking-in the engine, i. e. , I hit every hill as hard as I can—usually putting it in 5th and flooring it—and then coasting at the top. So far I have not encountered a hill that I cannot continue to accelerate up when in 5th gear. On some hills, the only reason I come off the throttle is because I’m hitting 3,000 rpm and ~70 mph.
Great truck. Pulls great.
