Competition Truck Pull in KY

Im just glad that Joe decided to include sled pulling in the events for May Madness. That is what the thread is about anyway. The rules are simple and straight forward... run whatcha brung. The sled is not cheap and was brought in at an expense to consider as well.

Drag racing, sled pulling and dyno events all in one place. Sounds good to me. Those who enjoy any or all of the sports involved will have their pick. Personally, Im not even sure how to pull a sled around, so I would not do it myself. Although, I might if I learned a bit more about it first. It sounds very destructive to trucks and drivetrains from the accounts I have read. I need my truck everyday for work so I would need to build another rig to pull with or risk walking around Dallas.

Joe and DD IMO are the best at the dyno sport and it looks like Keith is gonna give most of the others a tough time at the drag strip as well. Pulling goes to the Mitchells. Of course, things could change if the West ever decided to give it an honest effort.

(You know your clutch will fail!)

(it is destructive with inferior parts!)

Keith does well at the strip.

When did testing on a dyno suddenly become a "sport"???

If it is a sport, that means there is tricks and/or cheats involved.

And if Joe and DD are the best... ... . ????

That tells me that they know what to do to get the best smoke out of a truck, and If the Lawrence always drives everybodys trucks, how we are to be assured it is done fairly for ALL the trucks?

The important part though, is that Joe got a sled, knowing full well he would take this flak.

I am sure it is appreciated by many. The sled, not the flak.

Don, when the westerners take pullin serious, the parts will come from Ohio.

Prolly be stolen and copied, but that seems to be the norm from some vendors. . ;)

I know at least one guy on the East coast that can give those big boys a run for the money on the dyno:). The same person is his own sponsor!

Doug

Doug,

I would love to see your truck on the dyno. It sounds like a real screamer.

This is kinda silly anyway about the West and East BS.

Im not against the Eastern side. I lived there for a few years.

Don~

doug

i ain't afriad of your east coast truck:confused:

joe

man we need some rules, like weight classes, hitch hieght. are we going to have 7200lb and 8000lbs? drugs- no drugs come on man through us a bone.

jim

Don,

Actually I grew up in Oklahoma..... I prefer the midwest to where I am now thats for sure:). I am in hopes of meeting all of you guys soon! I Wanted to make May Madness but I have to work to support my bombing addiction. I am going to Muncie so I hope to see many of you there.

The East West crap is just that but I needed to get a fun jab in while I could;).

Doug

IMO, Jim Fuller is a real threat to the eastern side guys. He has the real HP numbers to prove it.

My advice to Gene and his 400 HP truck is to stay in Penn state and beat the other 400hp trucks. The West will stomp the guts outta the East if things get heated up. HP is developed, tested with real methods and made in the West. ;)

Oklahoma? Me and the wife have a house in Oklahoma. Wish I could make a living there. I would be there.

Muncie sounded fun until I was told to "pound sand" and could not stay with Gene Mohney. Im wounded somewhat from that. Really. :D Poor guys like me need all the help they can get to secure lodging on these away from home trips.

Don~

Yep, Jim Fuller with his Ohio parts!!!

LOL!!

East vs West is a fun thing like the 12 vs 24.

I am all mixed up-Live in Pa, wish the South would have won, and want to live out west! I'm partial to Reno.

Like I said, I don't count because I was concerned with mileage, I am not a true example of East Coast power.

What kind of BOMBer wants fuel mileage????!?!

Yeah the twins did come from the East. But the injectors, the fueling boxes, and the transmission all come from out West.

Gene, even your injectors were discovered by Westerners.

And your cam plate. Shoot, even your truck was from the West.

Don~

Gene, you have me confused  about some things you recently posted:

--When did testing on a dyno suddenly become a "sport"??? --

I guess about the time someone decided that it was a sport to drag around a slab of metal like a farm tractor does. ;)

--Personlly, I am very happy with my 400-425 hp, and will race your "sickly" 609 anywhere, because your big ol HX 55 is a lag pig. --

My HX55 doesn’t lag near as bad as your camshaft—it begins to wake up at 2000 rpm and works over 2500. Should we call your Enterprise cam a lag pig too

--I can't believe you Joe, you grind the bumps off a plate, to make a fuel stop, or safety, something every farmer who pulls in the midwest has done for years, and try to market it has #0 plate? As a new invention?

gene--

So, why did you buy one of my #0 plates from Piers?

Actually Joe, sled pulling was a sport much farther back than that- farmers were hooking their ponies to weight boxs a long time ago.

I didn't buy one of your "0" plates from Piers, and you really don't want to go there, I wouldn't think.

I guess we could ask the people who have drove it ,if it is a lag pig.

I t drives much nicer than a 35/16 with 370's.

Get the Boat!

Get the boat! Get the Boat! It's getting awfuly deep around here!

Bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla.

Don't want to see it on paper, don't want to see it on the track.

How about seeing it in my back yard hooked back to back. ;)

That would be a lot more fun for the rest of us. :-laf

Rowin in the deep I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER.

Joe,

Please explain this commit. How could a better cam cause lag, when there are twins on the truck? Because it will go higher in the RPM range?

And I think Dynoing has become a sport only because people(West Coast) have started making such a game about it. We all know that they can be rigged, and the fact is you can't beat someone at their own game. Just like you can't beat DD on the dyno, and you can't beat the Mitchells at the pulls, and you can't beat Southern Truck Parts at the track.

Andrew, some day drive a gasser with a high rpm cam. It will be a bucket of slush until 3000+ rpm. "Better" covers a multitude of possibilities, and "compromise" does too. There is no point to continuing the "discussion" of sled pulling horsepower vs. measured horsepower, nor of one company vs. another.

I try to use actual horsepower numbers for purposes of comparison, not a sliding scale of wins/days/dirt conditions/traction setup/driving/etc.

For those who attend TDR rallies for enjoyment and friendly competition, that is what we plan to have.

Unlike some other dynos, the Dynojet has nothing to monkey with, or "cheat". There are several correction factors you can pick from, European, Asian, SAE. They only make a small difference, and DD always uses the SAE=Society of Automotive Engineers. You push the button to start the run, and put the accelerator pedal to the floor. The truck accelerates through that gear, you push the button to stop the run. End of story. The Dynojet also doesn't suffer from traction problems, or any major spoolup problems--unless you use the baby Dynojet designed for rice rockets. There is no problem holding 700 hp on the NASCAR, wide roller, high inertia unit that Diesel Dynamics has.

Diesel Dynamics does not rig their results, period. They don't have to. Again, the Dynojet does not suffer from the iffy traction and multiple programs with widely different results. The results can't be rigged, despite your allegation. I did not rig the results on my Ram, either. I ran at DD and at Silver State, over 600 both places. I spent the last year on driveability and air systems. Don't expect another 50 hp from Sickly this year. These things are not as easy as some people like to think, at least when you don't use bottles for the fuel and air.

Come to May Madness and see for yourself. The big guns in the dyno world will be there. I have talked to ATS of Denver, Bully Dog, Jim Fuller, Piers Harry and others. Here is the chance for FREE dyno time to compare your Ram with the other big dogs, same dyno, same time, no problems with traction or programming.

this thread is just as entertaining as any auto transmission thread

This is going to be a great no BS dyno day.

may the best Ram win :) no excuses

Andrew,

I will give you a ride at Muncie, and you can report back to Dr. Joe and tell him where my power comes on at.

Comparing a race gas engine to a Diesel is ludicrous.

Joe,

I am sorry that you took offence to my post, I hold the highest respect for you and DD . However if there is no way to "spike" a Dynojet?

Gene,

I would love to take you up on that ride, when you got the sled hooked up. :D ;)

Bob,

I think I agree with you..... for once :p ;)
