It's been a year since I put my 07 cab and chassis to work. It now has 89,756 miles on it. According to my log book, 89% of these miles have been towing a goose neck trailer that weighs a little over 7500 lbs empty. (I just bought a new one yesterday that weighs about 9k empty) The maximum payload I put on it is 15,000 lbs so most of the time the truck has between 7500 and 22,500 behind it. Mileage is averaging 10. 1 with the trailer and the times I've checked it running bobtail it averages about 15. 8, it has been as high as 16. 6 on a long interstate run. I had no problems at all until I reached 50k miles when I had a no start problem. It was intermittent and the dealer I bought the truck at started guessing at and put a flash on it that killed the regen on it totally, plugged it completely up. I got it to another dealer and the tech got it to regenerate again after a couple of days and many calls to star. I was still having a no start problem until it finally set a light and code. Turned out to be a throttle control valve, it was replaced and the truck has run perfectly every since. The Aisin transmission and exhaust brake makes towing a trailer almost fun. The truck has plenty of power stock to do what I need to do. (oilfield hotshot) I have had none of the emissions problems that the pickup models have had, not counting the one tech induced problem. I have had to run the LSD from time to time when I was in an area that didn't have ULSD and the truck seems to tolerate it OK.

I guess to sum it up, after the first year, I am very happy with the cab and chassis. It has done everything I wanted and with the long wheel base is much more comfortable to drive than my 03 was. I see there is another thread asking would I "do it again". In my case, the answer is definitely YES!

Good to hear, EB.

Odd you can use the words 1 year, 89,756 miles, and fun in the same paragraph. Glad it's earning it's keep !

Thanks, EB.

Very encouraging report. Seems to indicate that Dodge/Cummins CAN get it right.

Let's hope that they can bring the pick-ups to the same success level.

EB,

Congratulations on a wise truck choice. I'm glad to hear that the 6. 7 Cummins, Aisin transmission, and 3500 c&c makes an excellent working truck. I'm giving serious consideration to a new 4500 in a year or two.

Only 89,756 mile in one year??? You're only driving part time compared to RV transporters. My '06 racked up just under 215k miles in 18 months! You must be paid a heck of a lot better rate than us poor dumb RV transporters.

Thanks, but if you will notice, I said "almost" fun.

You're right, I don't drive as much as some, but I'm home nearly every night and if what I have heard about RV transporters being paid about $1. 00 a mile one way, you're right, I get paid a heck of a lot better rate than that.

Hey EB, I know what you mean I was thinking about hauling RV's until I looked up what Horizon was paying. I'm going to hotshot next winter when I'm more prepared and Horizon wont be part of that.

HBarlow, you must not drive for Horizon because the little that they pay can hardly make enough to replace your worn out truck let alone make a profit.

Wow, my 01 just turned 90,000 miles.

and mine only has 25,600,EB---congrates on the mostly trouble free miles,i drive between work and play about 50+miles and i thought that was alot. Keep us posted,be interesting to see if they can go into the 400/500,000 mile mark like the older generations. DW

RVTRKN,

No, I don't work for Horizon now but I started with them and worked for them over a year. Throughout calendar year '05 I found a niche in the industry and ran loaded most of the time. I made very good money that year and enjoyed it.

In my case I already owned a Dodge diesel dually when I decided to pull RVs and will continue to own one long after I quit. As I said in an earlier, post, "pulling RVs is a great job if you don't need a job. "

Luv my 6.7

I to am very pleased with my 6. 7 just wish the mileage was a little better and the fuel prices would come down. I haul hay for my cattle operation have hauled as much as 23000 includes trailer. AFE cold air kit MLRB muffler everything else stock 12 to 15 loaded if i keep it under 2000RPM's. Not bad for a 4x4 also found better mileage w/jake turned off except when needed.

Thanks, but if you will notice, I said "almost" fun.

So far so good

Just picked up my 07 3500 quad short bed srw 6-spd 6. 7 this past week. I have a little over 1000 miles on her and so far so good. Picked the truck up in St Louis Missouri and drove 700 to 800 miles back to pa and did 17. 75 mpg hand calculated. And that was running 75-80 mph. I was happy with that but am hoping for better once it gets broken in. This is my 7th Dodge Cummins but my first 6. 7 so am anxious to see how it works for me. Also I ran with my eb on most of the way home. Can someone explain to me how you get better mileage with it off on the highway. Is the turbo vains restricting the exhaust flow alittle with it on? Am not trying to argue just wondering beings I haven't tried it yet myself and wondering if others have noticed any difference.

Glad to see everyone having positive things to say about the 6. 7L since I just bought one this weekend. Anxious to go on a road trip and see about my mileage.
