How BIG is your "DECK"??????

Instead of flashing your lights, try turning them off and then back on. I think they will understand that a little bit more than flashing your brights at them.

At night, that's exactly what I do. During the day, I don't have them on, so there aren't any lights to turn off.

If the cop is well hidden and in an area where speeding is likely (and not unsafe) I often do flash.

The cops constantly claim they run speed traps for safety, not to generate revenue. If that's true, why are they always hiding so that people SLAM on their brakes when they see them (causing fender-benders)? If the cops are running speed monitoring they should put up a huge sign that announces it a mile before the "trap".

Then I might believe the "we're here for safety" BS.

I recieve phone calls from citizens who call the bus garage to complain about being held up by our school buses.

Around here, there are MANY extremely inconsiderate school bus drivers who absolutely REFUSE to pull off to the side and let people by. Most all roads around here are two-lane, and a few of these drivers get a 100+ car parade going behind them.

Maybe you have one or two of them in your fleet. Think about it this way... one minute of the drivers' time can save 50 people 15 minutes each.

I used to flash lights at speed traps, but most of the people around here are either oblivious to what this means :rolleyes: or have their high beams on all of the time. (senior citizens that cant see @ night) :{

So I dont bother anymore.

Old road rules

The old rule is that you flash twice for trouble, and once for clear highway ahead. In daylight hours, give the oncoming driver a backwards peace sign for cops/trouble ahead, a single index finger (not the middle one :-laf ) in a rolling motion for clear highway. When the trailer of a passing truck clears your frontend, it is a courtesy to either flash your lights, or at night turn them off and back on. . They will in turn give you a thank you by flashing their markers.

I hate to say this, but I have found that hispanics are usually the culprits of the running with road light thing... It looks cool? We have a lot of the younger ones always running with them... Makes a guy want to follow them home with the old ballpeen hammer, don't it?

The subject of blinking your lights when a big rig passes you was mentioned on another thread.

Iv noticed that there arent as many drivers that "flash" as there used to be.

I get "flashed from some drivers that are "old school'

But the new breed of "Truck Master Grads" arent taught this. Or they were off that day.

Siginaling With Lights

I was a line road driver for HAWKEYE MOTER EXPRESS / BRUCE MOTER FRT about 40 years ago. I had the best safety record in the fleet. I drove for a living 14 years. This was in the midwest. I have 4 years pulling doubles. We were told that siginaling other drivers made us responsable for them. Leglal isue . We did it anyway but used a lot of descrition. I got me another ocupation after a drunk going 80 mph and on my side of the toll road hit me head on. Took 5 mths to heal up enough to work again. Three years ago my DS650 came off a dune wrong_endoed & i broke 5 ribs, disconected 3, broke collar bone, collapsed a loung. Road back to truck. Still ride, geared out at 120 mph. Sure like my 12 valve 3500, 300 hs. BAD BOB

I never warn of speed trap. If you're speeding, you deserve to get a ticket. Just what is the point of driving 80 mph+ on I-75. It is not only dangerous to you, but to everyone else around you. If I had access to their radio freq. I would help them out. I hate speeding drivers.

I'd much rather see officers spending the time and effort to write tickets to drivers driving carelessly than wasting time writing speeding tickets. I see far more dangerous drivers on the road going 10+ miles under the speed limit in heavy traffic and no where is this more evident that at on ramps to major highways. I am not sure why people think stopping at the end of the ramp or slowing down will make merging into traffic safer. A Semi or heavily loaded vehicle has a good reason... ..... physics, everyone else is just putting themselves and everyone around them at risk.

Trust me when i say most radar used for writing speeding tickets is inacurate at best... ... ... ... ... at night unless you are the only person on the road it is useless. I sat in a FHP car on a dirt road in the middle of no where and clocked the ants crossing the road at 75+ mph :-laf

You may think because you don't speed you won't get a ticket but I have gotten 2 (both at night in the last 20 years)when I know for a fact, I was not speeding.

How do you know the ants weren't going 75mph :D

Do tell how you know for a fact that you were not speeding - calibrated speedo, GPS, etc?

Brian

Personally, when I see someone pulled over and I have to slow down (on a 2 lane) I usually roll a present in there for the officer to enjoy while giving the ticket.

Otherwise , I always flash !

It may have been that when the engine rpm was changed... ... ... ... ... ..... :-laf

Not only

It is not only speed traps I flash my lights for, it is accidents, cows on the road, road damage, ect. Anything that might cause the oncoming driver harm. . :D

Why?

We had a HWY patrol man shot and killed. There were road blocks every were when drivers left the road block they flashed thier lights to be polite to oncoming drivers. When the sumbich was finally caught he thanked those that let him know there was a road block ahead. So stick your flash warnings up your butts! Nuff said.
