Has anybody used the Fleetguard LF9028 Venturi Combo oil filter on their 5. 9 engine truck? This filter was mentioned in issue 71 of the TDR (pg 69). If you've used this filter, please provide any positive/negative comments.

Thanks,

Steve

Subject: Fw: Venturi Combo Filters

Tony, we do offer the LF9028 that is designed for the ISB Cummins engines, for Kubota and Carrier(OEM). Dodge has not ask for a Venture Combo for the pick up truck applications. However, the length and OD is very close on the LF3972 and the LF9028, so there should not be a issue on the size of the LF9028. The LF9028 should perform on the ISB engines in the Dodge Rams a they do on the Kubota and Carrier applications. However, Dodge may not cover the warranty on the LF9028, since they did not approve the use of this filter.

If I can be of assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Ed,

During your use of the Baldwin filter, what kind of driving have you primarily done? I really only use my truck when I pull my toyhauler, so my use is primarily working the engine fairly hard. I guess I just wonder if there's any potential oil pressure/supply problems with this kind of filter that would come to light during heavy use. Also, how long are you running the filter before changing?

Thanks,

Steve

In a sentence....

"Thank you for contacting us using FleetMaster. You are correct that at this time the LF9028 Venturi Combo filter does not have a Dodge application. The primary application for this filter is Kubota. We do understand that many Dodge owners have chosen to us this Venturi filter. We also understand that they are extremely happy with it's performance.

However, at this time we cannot officially recommend it's use in this application as there have not been adequate tests nor has Chrysler authorized it's use. Please be aware that use of this filter on your Dodge may adversely effect your warranty coverage. You will need to check with your OEM (Dodge) for clarification. Thanks again and have a great day!

Thank you for using FleetMaster

LF9028 Venturi Filter

I'm running my oil about 5,000 miles between changes. I tow boats up to 10,000 lbs along with running back and forth to work about 575 miles a week. Also using Shell Rotella Synthetic lube oil, Hate to say it but WallMart has the best price around here for the oil. Baldwin says that the flow rates are the same as the standard lube filter just that this dual venturi offers much better filteration. Fuel filters I was changing at 15,000 but with the new supplier that I'm using their fuel is really clean and filters are lasting much longer ith out showing any loss of fuel pressure.

I've been useing the Baldwin (think it's number BD7317) version wityh out any issues except the oil stays cleaner longer

That is the correct cross from the Fleetguard LF9028...

Interestingly enough, Wix crosses the LF9028 to their high efficiency [standard] filter, not a venturi.

Those filters are ~$45 or so are they not. I use the LF3000 on our 8. 3L cummins. I believe they are a venturi filter too.

I have used the Baldwin 7317 filter for over one year the oil stays clearer for longer, i tow 9800# boat around north and southern Kalifornia. I am very satisfied with this filter

I have never heard of the Baldwin 7317 being a dual flow filter before. I just looked into it on the internet. The reviews it is getting here and on other sites are really good. Many people are indicating that their oil is staying cleaner longer. . ie it is likely better at filtering out soot then the other filters.

Obviously I am NOT saying that the other Fleetguard filters are no good, only that this one looks very promising in terms of soot reduction, which may or may not be important, though personally, I DO feel that soot reduction is a good thing.

It is available at some places online for under $17.

I would assume you could extend OCIs, and therefore offset the added cost of the filter...

I would like to see the Baldwin 7317 disassembled... just to see what the construction looks like.

Steve, I have a Fleetguard LF9028 Venturi Combo oil filter that I'm probably not going to use. I have an Amsoil Bypass. I can ship the filter to you and you can cut it up. N/C.

If there would be anybody else interested in seeing one cut open? I hate to waste a good filter just on my own curiousity.
