I looked at the PDR site and they no longer show the heavy duty flexplate. Does anyone know if they still offer it, but it just isn't on the site?

Is the stock model for the 94 adequate? Does it fit with no modifications? Part number?

Thanks.

The 94 or 95 will fit with no modifications. I believe unless you are gonna go crazy wild with power or a lockup TC and mystery switch the 2nd gen flex plate will work admirably. :)

Newer model flexplate

Phil,

I did the swap on my 89 with no problems. A direct bolt up :)

There I go again, writing a reply to myself :-laf

I think I remember a previous post regarding a bit of tweek from Steve on your rig. If you are having flexplate problems that extra HP might be the cause but also Mysteryman has commented that some of the trannys were doweled incorrectly and the real reason for failure on the flexplate was missalignment. You might want to investigate that.

I was mighty close to your location but even closer on time so didn't come by. I still have that on my back burner. What would you think of a group meeting at your place some time soon? How many first gens could you park on your property? The weather was absolutely fantastic in Va over the weekend.

James,

What can be done to correct misalignment? Is it just how they bolt the plate on?

I could probably park all the 1st Gens in TDR on our property. Some of them wouldn't be on level ground, but they'd be ok. I was considering a cookout on Mother's Day. Sandy is working straight weekends now, and she has off the 14th. Were you going to be back up this way??

Misalignment

No, it isn't how the flex plate is on the crank but how the transmission (doesn't) bolt up on a perfect centerline match with the engine, thus giving a slight twist to the flex plate which has to compensate (flex) on every revolution of the engine. Now I realize that it has the name flex plate but it doesn't actually flex in a rotational plane. I have not experienced any problem with this. Everything I know was from a post by Mysteryman.

Just guessing from a situation that did occur on a Scout/Case conversion we did a looooong time ago, if you don't have problems with the front (transmission) oil seal deterorating very quickly, it is probably just the extra torque and an inadequate original part.

But look back at the post from Mysteryman and (maybe) discuss it with your mechanic.

I will email on the possibility of being in your area.
