Wilernest Camper Purchase...

on the subject of flipping... i have a 91 prairie schooner 40ft with three axles... i need to flip the axles to et enough clearance with my dodge. i also could stand some new springs because these are starting to sag after the weight of 11 years. the front axle has been changed. . before i owned it and has been shortened, they did not cut it in the middle! this concerns me and the trailer tracks maybe 1" or 1 1/2" off to one side on the level. now the question... do i flip these axles and buy new springs or just replace the axles all together? this would give me new brakes bearings and all. any input is appreciated

If it were me, I would just get new axles with the spring mounts on top, add new springs and be set for a good long while. I think that by the time you get new springs anyway plus the labor and certified welding of the new spring mounts, the difference in price would be negligble. If you went on from there and also rebuilt your brakes the whole thing might almost be equal in price and you would still have the old axles. I've included the link to Dexter Axle if you haven't been there yet.

Dexter Axle is the way to go. With about 80% of the axle market they can be fixed anywhere - not that they need to be fixed very often. They are good to work with on any kind of axle you might need. Not affiliated - just a satisifed customer for many years.

while your looking at new axles, if you have raised spindle axles... . in other words, the axle doesn't go straight in the middle of the wheel, the axle ends at a bracket that then goes up 5 or 6 inches... then the spindle is mounted...

if you have such an axle that's not just a straight axle. . if your buying new, you can get the straight axle, not even screw around with the perches and gain 5 inches or so.

nope have straight axles. and no place close to me that i know of to get new axles. that is what i thought would be the best thing to do. anybody got prices on new axles in the 5500 6500 lb range????? hhhmmmm??

thanks bv. checked their site and did not see anything heavy enough listed. looks like they deal in axles for boats mainly.

champion trailer parts

You might want to give them a call (it's free)or get their catalog (also free). I remember seeing 5200# axles in there. Most internet sights only have a sampling of what they offer so don't cut them short based on that.

I assume you know there's a TSB for lowering the rear of your truck for trailer clearance. Some dealers do it under warranty. Might be the most economical way out.
