Mental,
There are only two fluids/gases that enter the cab. Antifreeze to the heater core (passenger side) and Freon R-134A for the A/C evaporator core (passenger side).
Barring something (fluid) spilled into the cowl ducts it's probably antifreeze.
What color antifreeze are you using?
Usually a sweet smell occurs and the carpet/mat will be wet in passenger foot well.
Heater Core.

I am using Cat antifreeze and that is what it is but its not sweet smelling but when I checked the fluid level it was a tad low. Looks like heater core time. thanks for the reply.

Plan on about 6 hours to pull the dash and r&r the core, i did the ac core while i was in there, and fixed the doors (new foam seals)in the heater box. You may need this thread.

This one is good also.

The AC lines are a bithc if they are rusted at the seals. I would put some pb blaster on them a few days before, if you plan to replace evaporator core. Good luck

Mental,

While your in the dash doing the repair, tell me if your heater core had a cover over the top of it or it was exposed to the air and you could see the top of the core.

When I replaced my dash I noticed that there wasn't any type of cover sealing the very top of my heater core. With no flow control valve hot antifreeze constantly circulates through the core and gives heat off the top into the cabin. I believe that this contributed to my dash cracking since it started directly over the top of the core.
