I have a 1997 dodge 3500 with a 12 valve engine. It's a 4x4 with an auto transmission everything is stock and I would like to turn it up to 400 HP. I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me. I would just like some input on what to do. I have a fluidampr off a 2002 cummins 24 valve I came across and was just wondering if it would fit my cummins 12 valve? Let Me hear your input and advice TDR guys thanks.

I just got mine for my 96 last week but have yet to install it. Hopefully this weekend. The instructions list 4 different part numbers for Dodge Cummins:

920301 2003-2007

960301 1998. 5-2002

960311 1992-1998. 5

960341 competition series

I know on the 960311 for the 12 valves, you get a crank sensor relocating bracket.

You could contact Fluidampr at 716-592-1000 or email -- email address removed --

I don't think it'll work for you. The 12 valve damper has 2 notches that trigger the crank sensor, a 24 valve balancer does not. It would bolt up, but you would lose your tach and your alternator would not charge. The pcm would not see a crank signal, so it wouldn't "know" the engine is running.

Hi Swinehart, welcome to the board. It doesn't take a lot of $$ to crank a 12V up to 400hp, however you will need to upgrade the auto to withstand it. If you mash on it much with 400hp under your right foot the transmission will die fast. Pretty much means doing a rebuild right, going DTT (Diesel Transmission Technology in BC), Goerend brothers (midwest), Source Automotive (Rip in Portland OR), ATS (Denver CO) or Suncoast (Florida) are the primary ones that come to mind.

On the engine side go with a cam plate (#10 at least with the Auto), injectors (370s will get you power easy but Dynomite DIesel Stage 3 or 4 will do it cleaner and cooler), and add a governor sprink kit (3000 RPM is plenty). Also will need air intake, turbo and exhaust upgrades. At 400hp there are some good singles that'll fill the bill, I'll let someone else chime in on that subject as others are more knowledgeable.

I've done some mods on my '98 lately, has Bosch 300 injectors with #10 plate and 3K gov spring kit, definitely woke it up. I'm pumping the power thru the stock-o-matic though, so far it's surviving (not for long I suspect). Next I need to get that stock 3" exhaust & cat off of there :-laf

Thanks guys for your input this should be a fun project. Its not my daily driver I just us it for towing my 5th wheel or any other hauling needs that come up.

I thought my 96 5 speed was a dog after I got it home a couple of falls ago. A retired farmer had it, so I know he did not do any upgrades to it. I installed an MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust, AFE Stage I air filter, #10 plate and 3000 rpm gov springs. What a difference that made. My next phase includes ARP head studs, ATS exhaust manifold, turbo upgrade and DDP Stage 3 injectors. I have a Fluidampr that I am going to try to get installed this weekend. I noticed the rubber on the stock dampner is starting to push out.
