I have seen people posting about flux injectors and was wondering what the difference is from an EDM or extrude honed?

Is this an aftermarket nozzle or a modified O. E?

flux injectors are made by formula 1 diesel, or otherwise known as Don M. :D They are EDM injector nozzles made from new tips.

The EDM process starts with new tips and burns the holes in the nozzles. With that process they can change the angle of the holes and the amount of holes.

With the extrude hone process, they start with your tips and pump an abrasive solution through them to open them up and enlarge them.

So Flux is more like a brand name then a modification process?

How do you change the angle of the spray pattern without making the hole size so big they would not be streetable.

Because it is a new tips (a blank) - Yo ucan make the angle whatever you like, no need to over-due to stock hole, cause there is none

PS - I like my injectors alot! - They can be a bit smokey thought with a big o'laggy single...

Exactly, just like he calls his 24 valve injectors "Mach" 1's, 2's, 3's, etc.

The advantage of making your own blank nozzles is that you can put as many holes in it as wou want, at whatever angle you want, and whatever size you want. It gives you more options than honing.

EDMs for 04.5 and up

So, anybody hear when the Flux injectors will be available for 04. 5 and up engines.

DD is carrying EDMs that are also new injector tips and have 8 holes. Very nice performers.

soon grasshopper, Very soon I hear ;)

I gave up on the EDM's for the 325 HP motors from F1 a long time ago. I have been hearing just a few more months for at least a year to a year and a half from them. I Know they are worth the wait and Don is working hard on them, but man its taking a long time.

i would be interested to know if any of you have seen a desent increase in power, going from extruded honed to edm---this is something that i have never seen, acually just the opposite, just curious, thanks :D

on 3rd gens or any gens???? If so, just take a look in the 2nd gen forum. I watched a 2001 pick up 40 Hp just from switching from bully dog stage 6's (200 HP) to don m's mach 6's. As for the 3rd gens, give him time. The fuel wan't available to feed his injectors until recently

12 valves like extruded injectors. 24 valves do better with edm's The common rails are still up in the air. The fuel to supply serious hp was not available till recent months. Only time will tell.

not start a war, but i have put some extruded honed injectors in with a certain combo and seen pretty impressive results about(90)hp increase thats with just the addition of injectors and tuning, the same truck with other edms, did not make more than 30hp or so with tuning. so im not to impressed, but time will tell. the truth is that there are certain combos will make more power with certain injectors, i just wanted to see if any one saw the results like i have. thanks

Well what my research prior to buying showed me is that hp ratings on injectors is ambiguous at he least. For instance,. . you can find non EDMs for 04. 5 and up models with more rated HP,... like around a 100. The EDMs I just got are rated at just 45hp. That is really not much of an issue as the difference is not 55hp. Why? Because on the higher rated injector to use them in the real world you need to turn your fueling boxes down as well as your duration units. So is it really a 55hp difference,... NOT!!

Speaking just for myself, this is my thinking on this issue. An injector, once it's in can't be adjusted while the performance box your running can be. So to retain maximum adjustability I prefer to have the lesser rated injector that I can get more maximum adjustment out of my box/boxes and for just around town putsing,... so as to get the best mileage at almost $260 a gallon (in ST. Louis). That's just my take and we all know the axiom about opinions don't we.

I'm not talking for Don M here in any way but from what I understand on his philosophy on this issue then it is in concert with his thinking as I believe his new flux injectors will also be in the 45hp range and with 8 holes. That's no accident as obviously the elite engineer types in this field have come to the same conclusions of 8 holes, lower hp ratings, and new tips which can be modded to accomodate their spray angles. Like I've heard Don M say several times, ..... he and others are up against a real top notch injector to begin with in the 04. 5 and older trucks, and to improve upon it is proving tough. My $. 02.

dynoing soon?

Diesel Power said:
are you going to dyno any time soon?

Probably. Only it's not going to show what your after as I didn't have a previous dyno number before the last two sets of upgrades of different things on my truck. Better than a year ago I dynoed one time and there has been tons of upgrades since then. The injectors are just a wee part of the latest round. I will dyno in a charity thing coming up here in ST. Louis late next month and will post however. Still need one more HD mod,... the CP3.
