Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fog inside cab (?)

Hey Fellas,



This will be my first post as I just joined. So far I've benifitted greatly from all the info. I've got a question about condensation on the windows of my 96'. Invariably when i turn on the defrost (on heat) an immense amount of foggy air funnels through all the vents creating heavy fog on windows. Living here in Alaska, I need my defrost to work well. My initial thoughts was the condenser or heater core problems. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your heater core is leaking. When I bought my current truck it would fog the windows in record time and was leaking on the floor. I did manage to change the heater core without disconnecting the a/c system.

Yeah, JAmos hit on the head. I have a 01 work truck that has gone though two cores and they all did the fog the window thing. Not what ya wanted to hear I bet. :{

Seeing the heater core mentioned makes me think of the A/C evaporator (in AK it'd be your defogger (was just up SE AK IT WAS SNOWING IN YAKATAT BAY!).

You might want to replace both at the same time. Do you guys have problems with the Sitka spruce and pine needles getting into the air plenums?? Here in NE I had to put air inlet screening on as my evaporator core started to rot from the compost!!

A buddy of mine had this same problem on a '94 CTD and had diagnosed it as the evaporator not emptying properly (neither of us could find where the empty valve is yet) instead purging into the cab and onto the windows. This one is a keeper so I'd like to completely fix this problem. Also if anyone knows of surefire way of diagnosing bad heater core? And, where is this evaporator/defogger located?

I said it once bypass your heater taking the water line off and going directly back to the block . if this stops the problem , by removing the hot water from it, then it's your core in the heater .
