Fog light switch bomb-ing?

I like to drive with the fog lights on. I was disappointed with my new truck's stock fog lights switch that could only be turned on when the headlights were on. The switch can only be pulled out to turn the fog lights on when the parking or headlights are on. I ordered a second headlight switch and disassembled the switch. I believe I can modify the switch so the fog lights can be turned on with the parking and headlights off. Anyone see any problems with this modification? I'm I bombing just a little?

You could do that setup, but the Ram has reverse wired headlights, the fog lights may have them too. Inother words, the ground is switched, not the positive.

I am modifying the switch so that it can be pulled out with out turning it. Removing the stop.

Boy they sure are trying to make the new ones tamper proof. On the older trucks all you had to do is move a couple of wires to bypass the lights on only fogs. Cap, the only problem I can see with your mod is that it's illegal in some states to run fogs without the headlights on, don't ask me why, but you may want to check first.

Here in sunny California it is almost a requirement to run with fog/driving light on. Legal, I don't know?

Here are the California foglamp rules:



24403. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two

foglamps which may be used with, but shall not be used in

substitution of, headlamps. Foglamps shall be mounted on the front

at a height of not less than 12 inches nor more than 30 inches and so

aimed that when the vehicle is not loaded none of the high-intensity

portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle shall

at a distance of 25 feet ahead project higher than a level of four

inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes.





24405. (a) Not more than four lamps of the following types showing

to the front of a vehicle may be lighted at any one time:

(1) Headlamps.

(2) Auxiliary driving or passing lamps.

(3) Fog lamps.

(4) Warning lamps.

(5) Spot lamps.

(6) Gaseous discharge lamps specified in Section 25258.

(b) For the purpose of this section each pair of a dual headlamp

system shall be considered as one lamp.

(c) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any authorized emergency

vehicle.
