okay well since Im keeping my 02 forever it has 160k on it and the fog lights are starting to look like it. I want to replace the lights with a alternative round style light. that I would be able to use the same factory harness/ and switch in the cab. or if anyone has had luck with just replacing the bulb #896 with a better white/blue etc. etc. I dont know what the top factory watts can take but seems the aftermarket bulbs may be to strong. also what is the best way to unhook the foglights and the plastic shroud holders that is in with them. . pictures would be great.

take some 3-400 grit paper and sand the yellow crap off the plastc lenses clean well and hit em with a few coats of clear, the same works for the headlights, you can polish them to a high shine without the clear coat step but they go yellow again in a year as the UV coating is gone

Replacement Found

well untill I can find someone that makes a blue or white version for this I just bought sylvania's replacement it was 5 wats higher than the bulb I had in it. and all I can say is it looks like a foglight. maybe see a diff when I drive in the morning.

DIESELWRKS,

I just applied kit from WalMart to redo headlights and fog lights... came w/ a lifetime guarantee. Best part is they have some typ of liquid acrylic that is a protective coating. They look great.

I too wanted to upgrade the 35 watt bulbs to 55 watt, but I recall reading somewhere that the higher wattage bulbs will melt the plastic bezels. I found what looks to be a good replacement at Advance Auto Parts that are 55 watt. They are only about $30.

did you just splice the wires of old and new and reconnect I would like to keep my foglights hooked to use same oem switch. do you have any pics of them. or did you do a post on this already. I remember someone doing a post with pics in past but could not find it. was that you. anyway thanks

take it easy

I have the OEM fog lights that I fixed the yellowing and haze.

As for the replacement fog lights, if it doesn't pplug in I'm sure you can splice them into factory wiring.

Hope this helps.

If going for replacements, I've been pleased with my PIAA's 510 or 520 Gosh I don't remember - read my sig (I can't see my tongue!! (-; ). Whichever, they're the smaller - should fit OEM because the Prozapp bumper ports were scaled the same. As far as new plugs - you can replace with MSD/deutsch connectors and have a better harness! Oh yeah, and once I post this I'll know which size - so I'll be OK!!

well thanks for all the replies I was looking to see who has replaced the oem fogs with something with higher watts. oem is 35 my lenses are not yellow or fogged up. just looking for a better replacement when I do this I will post pics of the new ones looking at PIAA lights and Ive looked at the ones at wal mart both sets around 55 watts. I need to do some research in the wire harness if I can find a replacement plug style I will use this vise splicing factory. thanks again for the replies.
