Lift pump

02/2500/Quadcab SLT/no Bombs/no problems/ uk note:

Just check the pump the other day by hitting the starter without running the engine. I have no guages so its the best I could do. Heard the pump start up and I cracked the filter drain valve to see what kind of flow we had. It was putting out plenty of fuel with good pressure so I´m calling it good.

Been using an fuel additive for lubrication since day one and will continue with that plan. Also, rarely let the tank get past the halfway mark. This not only keeps some head pressure to the lift pump but will keep condensation from building in the tank. Water and corrosion might be a bigger problem than lubrication as far as the lift and injector pumps are concerned.

As always... . JMO

ps: oh yea... . I´m towing heavy so it´s

under a good load at least half the time.

why don't dodge recall the damn pump. I bought this truck because of how tough it was supposed to be and reliable.

2001 36,000 qc 4x4 3. 54. just bought it.

LP Survey

30,000 miles and stock except for BHAF. Just installed Westach fuel pressure guage from Geno's and getting 14# at idle but will pull down to 4# when working hard. If I go real hard and pull RPM's above 2500 it goes to zero.   Am i in trouble or what.

lift pump failure

98. 5 (120k now) failed at 92k; press. wildly flucuating 2 psi to 10 psi. Now 15 psi steady at idle and 12 psi wot.

Ordered a spare pump for a long trip to Mexico and back.

98. 5 3500 quad cab,Edge EZ and DD2's, LP failure at 85,000, replaced under warranty, current milage 99,000 with 15 idle/ 13 to 14 cruise/ 12 wot.

lift pump

2001. 5 / 2500 qc sb / 4x4 / HO / 6spd

1st pump @ 42k with edge ez, dd2's and drop in k&n, straight exhaust

before this one it would idle at 12 psi, and 4psi wot

2nd pump @ 68k with edge comp, dd2's, afe cone filter, straight exhaust

this pump will be put in next week

a friend of mine has a '99 2500 qc sb, 4x4, 5spd

we put guages and a edge comp in his truck on a sunday and had good fuel psi, on the following tuesday his quit.

replaced at 106k it was the original pump

01. 5/2500/QC/short/66500 miles failing now Idle @ 10 psi WOT 4psi Last test @ 35000 was 14. 5 Idle 11. 5 WOT fuel filters changed at every 8000 miles. Stock condition 4" straight pipe and K&N only.

98. 5/162,000/3500 QC/Edge EZ @ 60,000/2/83,000 & 152,000/14 idle & 12 WOT now / 8 idle & 0 WOT prior to last failure

On the second one I ran both Howes and JD summer fuel additive religiously. Apparently, it did not help much.

oops I didn't know any better

try again

99/2500/quadcab/2wd/3. 54 rear gear/auto trans/stock

170,872 LP replaced because of all of the comments on this board. Cummins South did the work (I'm lazy) and fuel pressures were 8 at idle and 0-2 above idle. Local Dodge house had checked pressures at 155k and said everything was ok.

I think they were incorrect as ever since my filter change at 125k I've had to prime the filter bowl to get the truck running so I suspect the LP has been in trouble for long time. Its amazing how much better the truck runs now, just hope I haven't screwed up the VP44.....

Thanks for all of your help and for this site.

Peace,

Lift Pump

2001. 5/32000/quad/HO/6 speed/4wd-long bed/3. 54/stock

No guages so no idea of pressures. That will be changing very soon.

First lift pump failed 4k miles/4 months ago

On a trip out of town this past weekend truck completely died. Had to have towed to local dealership - left me and family stranded in 20 degree weather. Still not running. They have put another lift pump on and would not run. They later "discovered" that it was the wrong pump. Waiting on right one to be shipped in.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

99' QC auto. purchased @ 51K miles, FP gauge added @ 52K miles showed 5psi @ idle... 1psi @ WOT... then pump failed within the week... . currently @ 61K miles 15psi idle/13 WOT

01 Quad Cab SO 5-speed, short-box 4x4.

All stock / 35,200 miles and no failures. 13 idle, 9-10 cruise and 6-7 WOT (measured at VP44). Use additives very rarely.

Of note, after installing gauges in Sept, pressures were 1-1. 5 psi higher than they currently are.

Will be replacing my first fuel filter for the "fun" of it soon.
