2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ? for anyone who has swapped an 80 in place of a 70

plan on swapping in a cab & chassis dually into my 2500



how much shorter does the driveshaft need to be?



gonna run single wheels, just want the strongest rear i can find



any other advice i need to be aware of?

I just swapped an 80 in place of my 70.



I shortened my driveshaft 1 3/16" (after searching the TDR 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" seems to be the consensus on how much to shorten the driveshaft).



You will need new, larger U-Bolt plates because the 80 axle tubes are larger than the 70.



These are the only two things I ran into. I still don't have my parking brake hooked up but I am not that worried about it.

I'm pretty certain you will need to make your own. On my swap the axle I installed had the brake lines still intact so I just used them.

Hey Guys , I have been planning on doing this with my 96 srw to. I have an 95 Cab and Chassis dana 80 3. 54 limiterd slip. I have been asking with out a lot of help. do you guys know whether the 80 from the cab and chassis trucks is the same width as the 70 single wheel, because I would like to keep the single wheel in the back with out spacers etc. Cooker I,m up in houghton Lake MI. if I can be of any help let me know I have alot of dodge parts Mostly junk: but some useful stuff.

One other thing to mention is that with running single wheels on a DRW axle the tires will stick out a little more than with a SRW Dana 80.

I'm not certain but I think the axle is 2" wider overall so that would mean the tires would stick out 1" farther than they do with the stock axle.

2Broke2Smoke you could just buy 3/16" stainless lines and buy a double flare kit, and make your own lines. A good flare kit would only cost ya roughly 30 bucks. The kit should be able to flare different size line also.
