how to hop up a 84 mercedes turbo?

6.2 diesel help no glow plugs

You could open a shop and only work on 6. 0s and be a millionaire. I'm amazed Ford is still around with as much trouble as they've had with these things.

I love my Cummins but... . they are not bulletproof either. Dad has powerstrokes and I have cummins's. In previous trucks I have lost many parts. The 94 was stock and went through 10 auto's in 300,000 miles. It also had the KDP. The 99 lost a couple VP-44's and after I sold it had the 53 crack. My 01 lost 3 LP's and the NV5600 at 270,000. Dad has had pretty good luck with his furd's, and points my problems out continually. He has gone through several cam sensors and one ECM. Jake

The only really bad 6. 0's were the early 2003. 5's. Basically like a beta version of the motor, from what I have come to understand. I know a few people who love their 6. 0's, and with just a chip, intake and exhaust, they are comparable to our trucks with injectors, intake, exhaust, box, etc. Very impressive for a motor with 6 more cubic inches than what we run. At least give them a little credit. Dont get me wrong, I would never own one myself, just need to make that clear. Look at David Lott... His PSD is in the 500+ HP Range. That takes alot of work, and I give him and the whole DIESEL INNOVATIONS Crew props on that.

JFinke,

You've had the dubious distinction of having virtually all known major Dodge/Cummins problems; 47RE, KDP, VP-44 and 53 block! Don't buy any lottery tickets! ;)

All kidding aside, despite your relatively bad luck, the Cummins is as close to bulletproof as it gets.

And FWIW, although the early '03 PSD's may have been responsible for the lions share of the Ford crowd's nightmares, they are still far from being even a fraction as reliable as a Cummins. My buddy has 5 of them.

Cheers,

Dave

No I should but lottery tickets. Seven of the auto's were under warantee, VP44 got warantee even though it was tapped, the 53 was after it was sold and the KDP came out the cover not the case. I have bought several LP's over the years though. I lucked out as I have always used Fleetguard filters and never lost a motor because of a plugged cooling nozzle. Jake
