The all new, Ford designed 'Scorpion' 6. 7-liter V8 diesel engine that will replace the current Navistar supplied 6. 4-liter V8 Power Stroke by 2011.

It will also receive a new 6-speed automatic transmission.

Sounds like it is destined to be another POS! Why a V-8? They have tried that and failed. International makes some good inline 6 engines, but ford chose their bottom of the barrel V-8. If they had used the DTA360, or something similar in design, they would have had an engine!

Oh well, we need laughing stock and ford is mighty experienced at providing us with that! :-laf

:-laf:-lafThe way those trucks are designed... . if it were an in-line six, they would have to unbolt the cab and bed and lift both for access to the drivetrain to work on it!!:-laf:-laf:-laf:rolleyes:

Sounds like another ford blunder in the making. Why dont anyone make a truck with a smaller engine for fuel economy?

So many of us dont need the big hp and torque that seem to be shoved down out throat. Time for more M. P. G. s :(

I do not get Ford at all. International has been known for years to make good engines. Inline gassers in tractors/heavy diesel applications. I have a feeling the whole debacle is Ford's fault. Trying to make International make something as cheap as possible. At least the duramaxx was somewhat proven in Izuzu Cab overs before GM got into the mix-( If not mistaken). I don't know, the whole V-8 diesel thing turns me off.

If Furd owns Cummins, why don't they just use it instead of trying to design something they know nothing about.

Ford does not own cummins. If thay did do you thank they would let dodge have that eng in there truck??Stop and thank.

The upcoming Cummins V8 is rated as a Light Duty (although it would probably last just as long or longer under the hood of a SuperDuty) :-laf

Ok I gotta chime in on this, my father-in-law and brother-in-law both are techs for ford, they hate the powerstrokes and refuse to work on them, they have one diesel tech and he is busy all week long, he usually has at least two engines torn apart.

To do anything on them you have to pull the cab, the turbo is in a horrible place and the 6. 4 is getting up there in matching the 6 point OH NO motor in being one of the worst diesels every made. Plus I hate the way they sound like the pistons are trying to fly out the side of the block (that crackle sound they make)

They said that the engine is awesome until ford put their computers on them.

By the way, ford has never owned cummins, they owned some stock in cummins turning the mid 90's but cummins bought it back from them.

you guys don't understand ford is marketing to the less knowledgeable brand loyal customers, these people consider v8 as a selling point, they look down upon us with inline engines. they think since its a v8 its better,

I don't care if they put a turd under the hood of a ford, idiots around me would still buy one. ford customers tend to be so brand loyal they can't see strait, they also tend to be the people who feel they have something to prove to other people. kinda like small mans disease,

I do see a huge less amount of new fords driving around lately, I see lots of new dodges and chevys, it would be interesting to see how much sales market they have losed

Then WHY, when they are given a CHOICE, do they pay extra to get the inline 6 Cummins or Caterpillar (usually Cummins) engine in just about every 650-750 truck sold? Was at the Sunbelt Agriculture Expo and the furds were on display with various beds, implements and accessories on them. NONE had the Neverstart engine (6. 0hhhh) and out of 20 something trucks I saw throughout the show, TWO had the Caterpillar engine (also an inline 6), the rest were Cummins. The interesting thing was the 6. 0hhhh was the "standard " engine and it was somewhere around $600-$800 more to get the Cummins or Cat engine. When given the choice, even the furd folks would PAY EXTRA to have the inline 6.

A Furd F650 and F750 are medium duty trucks. A 6. 0 and 6. 4 Powerjoke are light duty engines. A Cummins 5. 9 and 6. 7 engines and a Caterpillar engine are medium duty engines. Furd can not put a light duty engine on a medium duty truck.
