Aluminum 5.9 Cummins ???????

Well, I just found out that the 04 superdutys have a fold out steel floor almost exactly like on the Dodge QC's... thats just not right... and another thing is that once they heard cummins will have 600 lbs/tq in January, they are coming out with a 6. 4liter with 610lbs/tq... sort of like their overinflated hp/tq numbers now. I just love when they are dynoed they have consistantly less hp/tq than the cummins. Just one reason I will never buy a ferd, if they cant tell the truth on power what else are they lying about? I think it should be against the law to do that, they should have actual dyno numbers with a graph on the truck to prove it (through a 3rd party so it will be more acurate).

OK stepping off of my soap box.

I thought the 6. 4 was just a turned up 6. 0, but they say it's a whole different design. I guess they're having too many problems with the 6. 0 so they decided to scrap it and start over.

i am not defending ford at all here, but defending international/navistar. that vt365 is a good engine, makes good torque down low [±600 at 1400rpm] and has had good relibility, but fords version however, they butchered the ecm programing to make it tach to 4k [navistar goes to 2800] and make no torque down low with a stick in hand. . all ford has to do is admit they know f*&k all about programing the diesel ecm's, hand that task to navistar and they will be running well again...

I like the idea of requiring a "plaque" on the vehicle with a dynamometer plot of torque and horsepower. I suppose the cost involved in putting one in would be prohibitive.

I have to agree with you man,if FORD... sorry fellas, but I still own 2 of them too... would have left the diesel engine dynamics to experts... then they would have at least had a decent combination to bring to market..... BUT... they didn't... and that is why I. and a lot of my friends who were died in the wool true blue FORD FANATICS switched to Dodges... . we wanted the real diesel power that we could only get from the Cummins turbo diesels... and to tell you the truth... we all figured the newer Fords were beginning to look more and more like the newer Dodges anyway... sooo. . we might as get the ORIGINALS>>>>instead of the imitators.

I can tell you that not one of us has looked back since buying these kick a## trucks... and all our old friends who stuck with 6. 0's are crying the blues.

I bleed blue... out of the 40 or so cars I've owned, only 4 or 5 have been non-Ford...

but I would never own a truck with anything but a Cummins in it...

so yeah, I bleed blue, but not just Ford blue... I bleed Cummins blue! :D

I hope to have a 96-98 12v in a Ford crew cab within the next few years...

hate to say it, but I think Ford builds/built a better truck... but not better enough to mess with a powerchoke! (and gas is never an option!!! )

Dont know where you got those torque numbers. Can you supply a link.

The rumor about the 6. 4 going into production appears to be true. Just not for 3 more years.

The problem isnt with these engines abilities to make torque. Its with the manufacturers ability to build and auto that can take it.

Im still waiting for the 6. 1 cummins though. ;) Ive got my fingers crossed.

I think ford shouldnt screw with what international makes. They want more hp than is prudent. Hey we are the ones fueling the hp wars so I best shut my yap.

Sidenote. The 305hp 5. 9 cummins is in motorhomes. Is there any 325hp PSD in busses or mediums?

Ford is also going to coil springs up front. They are also FINALLY gonna drop the heui. Do you need a sign from god. Catch a clue. It doesnt work as advertised. Accept it and move on. In 8 friggin years they didnt get all the problems ironed out. So they build a new engine on the same system. Repeat after me. Used engine oil is not a good medium for a hydraulic fuel injection system. Say that tens times and you should be cured.

Im willin to bet money the 6. 4 is gonna be the first without heui. They are going common rail.

Jared. The cummins makes 660 but it dont mean we get it at our end. I would be curious as hell to see if ford is shooting for 610 in the light duty pickups. That would be great. I am not adverse to owning a ford but 10 lb ft wouldnt sway me from my love of I-6s. If I can get an I with 600 im gonna do that.

I hope this oneupmanship doesnt kill these engines. My gut is telling me we are gonna start running into problems with all this power. Something unforseeable. If you apply enough force anything will eventually give. I hope Im just being paranoid.

Ford might w/ their Internationals, but our little 5. 9 Cummins has proven itself at power/torque levels well beyond the point that will ever be seen in a production 3/4-1 ton capacity...

there are LOTS of guys on this board with 300-400k mile trucks with 700-800+ at the wheels that are still going strong... don't know what the typical drivetrain losses are on these trucks, but when the "battle" involves makers going up 5-10 ftlbs at the flywheel every year, I'd say we have a LONG time at that pace before the trusty old B series becomes obsolete. (while Ford has to commission a new engine every 4 years to try to compete! ;) :p :D )
