Dodge Mercedes?

Duramax sound.

Greetings All, a friend recently purchased a Ford 6. 0 and I seem to remember a posting talking about a web site regarding this vehicle because my friends are having nothing but trouble with this unit. They need a web site as good as this one. If anyone can tell me the address of this site I would be appreciative and pass on the info. Thanks in advance DN

PS I advised them to get a Cummins with a Dodge.

Thats the place although from what I've heard I wouldn't go to the 6. 0 forum and start a thread about problems with a new powerstroke. Seems as though some there dont like to hear about it... kinda hurts feelings I guess. He should have bought the Cummins. We like to help and solve problems... making ownership that much more enjoyable. :)

A guy I work with is a die hard PSD follower, he has a 95 he still drives as a daily driver. Anyway, he was saying the other day that a lot of people have been blowing up turbos on the 6. 0, so much so Ford came out with a bulletin that said people shouldn't idle them for more than 4 minutes.

I can't verify if that's true but if it is can you image; you couldn't win, either you toast the turbo from shutting it off hot or you toast the turbo from sitting in a traffic jam idling for more than 4 minutes because their isn't sufficient lubrication at low rpm.

The other fire department in our township just purchased a new rescue truck F-450 with a 6. 0. I told them to beware of some potential problems and they just rolled their eyes telling me how its much better than the 7. 3's. Sad thing was that they actually could have bought a 7. 3 PSD when they ordered the chassis but they elected to wait for the newest diesel Ford had to offer. I just hope they dont have too many problems because they have waited for a long time for this truck and wont be getting a new one for another 15 years or so.

From just a few posts that I read over at the other forums it sounds like ford needed to log a couple more "hundreds of thousands" of miles on their new engine before releasing it. Maybe they could have found these problems out before having so many upset customers.

What town do I not want to get sick in?

I don't understand why they would buy something new for a rescue truck, wouldn't you want old reliable? Peoples lives are at stake.

Their old rescue was purchased as a used E-350 dually Type III ambulance with a 460 gasser. Never had a problem with it... just routine maint. more or less.

This is their first brand new truck since about 1973 and they are very proud of it. I just hope they dont have too much trouble. They were telling me how great it ran and how powerful it was on the trip home from the body upfitter. Time will tell. The only good (maybe bad) thing is that it will take a year or two before they get close to 5000 miles so maybe the service dealers will have some time to get used to the common problems. Just the nature of its use. It is a supplement to the transporting ambulance... which are all new and have the last of the 7. 3's. Rescues here are non-transporting BLS units with all the medical equipment plus the Jaws-of-Life etc.

Bad thing is I dont know of a Ford Dealer unless you go two hours away to Indy that could even begin to tackle a 6. 0 Engine problem. The only Powerstroke the local dealer has ever seen is their tow truck.

F-Superdutys are so very popular with emergency departments its going to be a real challenge. I told our department they have a choice... either a Dodge Cummins 3500 Cab/Chassis w/ 48RE or... well there was no other choice. I just wish we could get about 14000 GVRW instead of 11000.

Those poor 6. 0 guys!

These jokers are starting feel good threads to brag about how many miles their NEW 6. 0s have gone with no problems. VERY few are over 5k!! You can just hear the pride in their words as they talk about the "PROVEN" durability of the 6. 0, since they've had it for all of 2500 miles.

PLEEEEZE

These idiots get in "wars" about which company (GM vs Ford) is more financially stable for crying out loud!!

I don't now whether to laugh at their foolishness, cry at their pain, or shout to get through their numbskulls that it's not a sin to drive a CTD. They act like it is an express ticket to H3LL if they drove a dodge.

We CTD guys have our gripe threads about minor things that are easily remedied. But you will never see a TDR thread like: "anyone reach 10K miles without an engine catastrophe?"

It's no coincidence to me that MOST CTD owners are a little older and a little wiser than the average pickup owner. Of course, you also have us younger guys that just happen to be smarter than to buy some other diesel truck... ...

HOHN

The bad thing about running one in emergency service is that you crank it and immediately pull out to the street and then it is WOT all the way. That is not good on anything. I must admit to having a new respect for the old PSD and automatics. During paramedic ride-outs we ran the interstates several times at de-fuel speed and ran secondary streets 70-80 mph.

I heard for the first time today (I think) a new 6. 0 actually running. Now I understand why others have commented that it sounds "sick". It was just strange... I mean really strange. It really did sound sick.

I don't like busting on people, but ford and international have really let the public down. Also, I never would have thought that Gm of all people would have a better diesel with the duramax then ford. And of course I am a dodge nut, but I used to not be able to stand gm, but now I can say I'll never buy a ford either.

I wouldn't say so much that international left them down as I would Ford. International has been running the motor in their trucks for about 2 years without any problems. Most of these problems came up when Ford put their hands into it.

Has anyone heard a 6. 0 start up? That's when this engine really sounds sick. It takes a couple of seconds before the engine can take over from the starter. Pulled up to next to one as I filled up. I could notice a look of envy in his eyes... .
