Ouch

Where to buy Fuel in Reno?

not trying to flame anything here but my guess is pple are tired of being looked over and passed over as we are becoming a minority in our own country. Of course i could say more but thats for another section. Me personally some things made foriegn are good products, but most of the stuff coming into the states is junk and well i have a problem with jobs leaving the states and going outside the borders, but i think we can all thank the powers that be for that one... and i said i wouldn't say anymore LOL... I don't think it was meant as a racial slurr more or less as a joke is how i took it. . but each has their own opinion and perception on things to. .

Face it. As contradictory as it sounds, the only way an American company is going to compete in this global economy is to make some things over seas... . and today that means China (and India)... or to at least use Chinese steel or component parts. Almost everybody is doing it.

I agree 100%. The union may have been good a long time ago but it's not now. Its made the work force lazy and greedy!

Until the someone finally hands these idiots at the autoworkers union a dose of reality, all our stuff is going to go out of the US. IMHO, the unions will kill this country before we know it if someone doesnt lay the smack down on these greedy idiots![/QUOTE]

Here is something to remember. Wheather one aggrees with it or not, it is a trueism for all manufacturing business. Once a business invest in capital outlay for tooling, they need not spend anymore other than repair and upkeep of that tooling. The biggest expense that any business has, is it's workforce. Equipment is always looked at as an asset while the work force that runs the equipment is considered an expense. The first rule of making money is to keep your expenses down.

Now with that said, there are a few businesses that look upon their work force as an assett, but they are very few and they are considered a rarity.

One can blame the goverment for jobs going over seas all they want, but in reality, the company moving those jobs overseas is looking to cut expenses to maintain profitablilty and remain as a viable competitor in a global market.

I have a friend up in Spokane, Washington that is a one man shop. He got tired of being laid off by Boeing and other companies during the downsizing. He has just signed two seperate contracts to provide certian airline manufacturing companies with some verey hi-tech, light wieght structurual components that he as an individual makes in his shop, which is about the size of a 3 car garrage. Each contract is worth a little over 2 million. He is a one man operation with no employees. He is not interested in hiring anybody because it causes him to have to provide certian benifits that are goverment regulated and are nothing but one giant head ache for him to administer.

There are many, many small companies that fill a nich market out there that do very well with less employees. Look at the companies that advertise here on TDR. How many employees do they have? Darn few.

Someone said that the workers are greedy  To that I gather that it is a bad thing to make a living. I am not a Union bubba and never want to be one. But with that said, the benifits that we take for granted today in health care and dental and such along with other standard practices that give some protections to the worker were all fought for in years past by unions. Yep they got big and their management became way to self important and that is why they are dying off today.

I can go on for another several pages with no problem on this subject but I will not. If I want to be rich or wealthy (which I do) then the bottom line is that it is my responsibility to either work at a job that pays well or I become self employed and make my own product that people are interested in and willing to pay me a fair amount for my output. ;) That is the bottom line. I have attached what I make and sell using my plasma cam as an example. It is a house marker that is 4 ft wide. I sell these and 10,000 other custome made designs for about $250 each. If you one wants to crab about jobs going overseas, then start your own business and see how it goes. ;)

Being self employed is the only way I know of, to have job security and setting my own wage standard. Most employeers will only pay you what you as an employee are willing to accept. I want more, so I have a hobby business that I am developing.

It is hard NOT to find something made in China. I looked at the tool section of Walmart and almost everything was made in China. Stanley tools, Crescent, B&D, etc. At least Nicholson files are still made in the USA. I used files made in China and other countries before. Only good files I found were made in Germany, Japan and the USA. Hopefully Chinese products will get to the quality of Germany and Japan. Remember, just after WWII and for a decade or so after, a lot of products from those 2 countries were junk.

Gee... What a shock! Things in walmart made in china! Hard NOT to find made in china in that god forsaken place! Those manufacturers you listed, along with just about any other manufacturer nowadays have a "cheap" (chinese, taiwanese, etc) line that they sell to the big box stores and a quality line they sell to the specialty stores.

Saw the same items made in China at Ace Hardware. China will soon become the 2nd biggest economic power, if they aren't already. I would not be the least bit surprised if they passed the US and became the #1 economic power in less than 3 years. Our foreign policy is sucking all the $$$ out of the country, but that is another story that I will not get involved in over the internet.

You would be shocked at the number of parts manufactured in China for Ford, Dodge and GM. My nephew is a Mechanical Engineer for a company in Weatherford,Texas who design parts for the big three and get them made in China. They make things like brackets to wipers to weather seals and everything in between.
