Hi, Ive been a ford tech now for 15 years and the head diesel tech at my dealership and I just sold my F250 and got a new 06 Dodge... Did I do the right thing?? Im just so sick of working on the 6. 0L and always loved the Cummins... great engine!! I really love my new truck it runs great and feels like its put together right. . Is there anything I should know about these things, like things to do so I have many years of enjoyment... . Thanks guys Nick (the newbe) :D

Welcome aboard. I highly doubt you are going to find anybody on a pro Dodge website that's going to say you made the wrong decision moving from a Ford to a Dodge.



For me personally, I like the looks of the Ford (specifically the crew cab) much better than the Dodge. HOWEVER; IMHO, Ford (or anybody else for that matter) can't compare to the quality, fit and finish of the Dodge mated with a Cummins. I like the Dodge interior much better and the Cummins is a much better motor than the Powerstroke or the Duramax.



I don't think you will regret your decision.

First of all, welcome Nick to the TDR. Its a pretty good gang that will help you out.

Yes! the Cummins is a good engine and I hope you will have good luck with the whole truck and enjoy it.

Oo. "Oh Yea" You are going to love the truck life with this truck. I joined this site a year before I purchased a truck just to be sure. I made the right decision, in fact I bought a used 04. 5 from a TDR member and I am not dissatisified at all.

congrats. I think you will love your new truck. I have had both and definatley prefer the cummins to the powerstroke. Good luck

:D Transmission, when you decide to get away from the loss of horsepower to the ground get a trans you can lock up it makes a huge difference with this truck. :-laf Let the bombs begin.

I could be wrong , but I thought that was DTT. It's a transmission upgrade and I think it stands for diesel truck technologies, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :D ;)

I just ordered a 5" exhaust from MBRP Turbo back. And I took off that turbo ring thing :D ... . what should I do now?? I cant believe I didnt even have this truck for a week yet... .

Uh, oh!!! the Power bug is going to infect you... . NOW! time for a intake!!!! By the way, FORD does not own Cummins, it owns "Cummings" it's a joke on this site, you'll understand more after being on here awhile... "it's a joke guy's"

I was always a performance guy. My F250 made some power. . SAFE power. . I kicked a rod out of that truck when it was brand new. . I just dont want that to happen again :(
 
What is this ring thing? I took off my tube today and saw a big sorta "+" thing running all the way down the tube, and what looked like an air diverter at the elbow before the turbo. Uhhh, help??
 
Ring thing

The ring thing is a silencer on inlet of the turbo and the "+" thingy is also a silencer... Makes for a quiet ride, if you don't like Turbo noise...
 
Welcome! I was once a Ford man too! I loved my F-250SD, however I honestly can say that my Ram is a better truck hands down. I only have two small issues... . I have the standard quad cab, and it is much smaller than my "True" Ford crew cab... . However, the solution = new Megacab! ;) One other note: I read all these guys posting 20+ miles per gallon, and all I get is a solid 14 around town (Chicago), and about 17. 5 MPG on the road. These are real numbers hand calculated..... I must say that I still think these are respectable numbers. Big trucks + big HP = Less MPG.



Bottom Line... Enjoy, you made a great choice!
 
I too sold a 2002 f250 psd(great truck, reliable engine, horrible fuel mileage when towing) for the 04' cummins. Liked it so much, just had to get a 05'. Now i'm lookin at a 91. 5' w250 Oo.

Exhaust, AFE Intake, Edge Juice, Bilstein Shocks... then let the bleeding stop for a while. ;)

How much power can these transmissions handle?? Not like im going to beat on it all the time... I just dont want to blow this thing up. . its not like I can fix it at my dealer. . :-laf

Burn outs on level 5 from a stop with 315's... not recommended. General performance/shifting/fun factor on level 3 for daily driving, no worries. Level 4-5 like a crack addict? Get a second mort. to pay for gas this summer and to upgrade to DTT ot ATS... . Seriously though... . the truck is a completely different animal with regard to drivability with the Juice. Big difference. :-laf
