Happy Birthday to a whole bunch.

The automaker will have dealers upgrade software for the powertrain control module, which will power down the engine under higher-than-expected temperatures in the diesel particulate filter.

And this will help leaking injectors and broken turbos how?

caused by leaking fuel that ignited in the exhaust system's diesel particulate filter near the tailpipe

That's one way to clean out your DPF!:-laf

In a separate action, fewer than 10,000 of the trucks will have the battery cable rerouted to avoid chafing against a shield in the engine compartment that prevents water and mud from getting into the engine.

You'd think this would be one of those things that you'd notice while designing the truck. I wonder how many hoses and cables will be chafed and pinched when removing and replacing the cab to work on the engine?

I was hoping that Ford would have better luck with their new engine, but it doesn't look like things are starting out rosy.

I'm sure like anything else, the new PS will have issues that need to be worked out. I certainly would run out and buy one.

It's going to be very difficult to get objective data on the new 6. 4 problem rate. There are a lot of people watching it and hoping it will fail miserably. Those people are likely to jump at any chance to point out that the engine's a junker.

At the same time, the forces from the Ford side are likely to do their best to quell even the slightest rumors of any problems, and claim that the engine is perfect (just like they did with the 6. 0).

I wish Ford and Ford owners the best of luck with the 6. 4.

I read the article in the paper here yesterday.

The recall is to reprogram the particulate sensor software so that at high temperatures the truck will shut down. How's that for fixing the problem with leaking injectors?

TDR has the "Great Smoke Stories" thread. The Ford site has "Great Flame Stories" thread.

"I was drivin' my 6. 4 down the road and this dumb guy on a bike was right on the edge so I torched him! That'll teach him to ride near the road!"

My goodness, what the heck was that racket? That can't possibly be a normal sound for a 6. 4. Where was that video taken? Looks like a dealership. Was that one of the 3 trucks that had reported flames, or was that another random truck that happened to have the problem?

I don't know, someone on the Diesel-Stop posted it and the guys who replied seem to think it's kinda cool :-laf
