Ford Halts Sales of Certain F Series Trucks

When we used gas engines in the fields, we always ran upright exhaust to keep from starting fires. Since we now have diesels we kinda got lax on this rule because exhaust temps were so much less.



Well!! we better go back to exhaust pipes up through the hood again the way this looks. .
 
They are recalling 37400 trucks, some still on dealer lots.



"Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis said three reports of the tailpipe flames were submitted to them.



"It's really something that we noticed early on and we're moving swiftly to fix the problem," Jarvis said.



Jarvis cited that the incident was very rare because the flames could only occur in engines with leaking fluids. The two complaints were because of leaking fuel injectors while the other one was due to a crack in the turbocharger shaft.



Jarvis added that dealers will only be ordered to stop sale for a few days as they reprogram the software.
"



If they have the same type of particle filter and muffler, Dodges and GM's may end up with the same problem in case of a leak.

You have to admit, with all the requirements for the new diesel engines, engineers are up against a wall designing these things. Hopefully Ford works these bugs out and can at least satisfy their dedicated buyers paying 50k+.

That thing sounds hideous:eek:

I'm not sure if anyone else has thought about this but as a i was getting fuel the other day a brand new f450 ambulance was next to me getting fuel and i could help but worry that some day my life or anyones life maybe relying on a 6. 0 or 6. 4 to get them the help they need to stay alive. its a scary thought.



I used to work for a cmpany that dealt with the radios and fire station alerting systems you point a a scary thought that is unfortunatly realityl one day while servicing a station radio they had a call the ambulance went flying out as it made the turn you heard a horrible grinding noise then a bunch of smoke followed by a radio call "such and such company is out of service and we need a tow" that was scary since as you pointed out somones life depended on that call as it was a code 3; another time with a ambulance in our shop it was idling when all of a sudden it went to redline without any worining and proceeded to blow itself to pieces and apparently when we told the city that owned it what happened they were like oh great another one and did not even bother to ask questions I have said it many times but I am glad I don't own a ford I would buy a chevy in a heartbeat before even thinking about a ford...
 
This newest PJ issue makes me sad :confused: . Yes, it is nice to know RAMs are still the best, if not the fastest or best looking. However, competition is what has made our Cummins RAM what it is today. If the competition faulters, the DC and Cummins engineers will not feel the pressure to push the envelope.



I own a modified 1984 F-150 that is a well designed truck. It has lasted well past it's designed life span. True, I have modified the engine, transmission and rebuilt the 9 inch, but they are still solid Ford parts from the 70's and 80's. If push comes to shove, I trust my old Ford more than anyting with a data bus, including my RAM.

In the video, you can obviously hear the bad injector. That's the ticking noise.



If an injector fails on a Dodge, unless the designers have done their homework (international students must have gone skipping), Dodges will have flames shooting out the exhaust as well, however, because of Dodges tailpipe design, the flames may be alot less since air is not mixed in like the Ford and GM.

Yeah I realize that, my comment was more tongue in cheek then actually asking a question.



I gotcha. I wasn't taking a shot at you. I am amazed that there solution is not to fix the truck but to reprogram to shut the engine down. What a joke... ... or should I say Powerjoke?
 
cat diesel are not any better than cummins been there! the new dodge truck are some of the best made out there except the auto trannys could be better. ford's sales of f series trucks is down another 12 percent i imagine this video accounts for some of it.
 
maybe they should include coupons for weiners and marshmellos in the back of the owners manual, or have a new special edition truck like the harley edition, "the new 09 staypuft/ball park frank super duty comming soon to a park near you" :-laf

How about offering the trucks with NFL team logos on them. They could show a guy (or girl) grillin' up some brats on the "tailpipe grill" in the stadium parking lot... "Ford Super Duty the Official Tailgating Vehicle of the NFL. Of course there's always NASCAR... . The possibilities are endless. . :-laf

WhiteSheep, I have to totally disagree with you on Ford's of the 70's and 80's. I ordered a 71, F250 Ferd with a 4 speed, 390 gasses. This turned out to the very worse vehicle I ever had. I took very good care of it and maintained it well. I hauled my 10 1/2 ft cab-over camper on it half the year. The engine lasted 104K miles. I had it rebuilt by the most reputable engine rebuilder in Albuquerque. That lasted 21K miles and I had to have a factory rebuilt engine installed. That lasted 30K miles and then I gave the truck away. In addition to the engine, everything else except the 4 speed transmission went out, sometime twice, sometimes three times. Oil consumption was always horrible and fuel economy was bad. The only good thing I can say about the old beast was that sheet metal was thick, but it rusted easy.

I am certainaly not a Ford fan,, but I think y'all are giving them a worse shake then they deserve.



First from what I understand that is an International engine. They are good engine builders and will get problems straightend out.



Second the exhaust fire is caused by the EPA additions to clean the soot out of where ever the heck it is trapped. That means that a bad injecter in any of our engines will most likely have the exact same effect.



We all need to be aware of this problem on our diesels regardless of the manufacturer as they are a real fire hazard around combustable materials. ie:Wheat fields
 
The Powerjoke is built specifically for Ford, and everytime they get close to working everything out, Ford orders it changed! And I have never heard of any truck other than the Fords doing this firestarter routine.



I will give you that Ford has a good chassis.
