Looking for a quick answer. I am not sure this is the right place to post this so go ahead and move it. :)

My know it all uncle told me straight faced that ford owns Cummins. He looked at me like I had kicked his berries when I told him he was wrong.

And it starts :-laf :-{} :D :-laf :-laf

Any one have a link that I can print something to back up this?

Having a bit of trouble doing a search on this tonight. Can not find what I am looking for.

Tell him Ford DOES own part of cummins..... the part that won't put a descent diesel motor in his light duty Ferd pickup!! :-laf

It is a Christmas wish of ford owners world over. Of course they also wait for the easter bunny and the great pumpkin. Randy

MAn have I heard that since I started selling these things back in 94. Also, I've never had a single person that knows anything about trucks tell me their ford or chev diesel was ever better than a cummins. I had fellow salesmen at ford dealerships tell me hey we're getting the cummins next year! HA!

this sounds like a die-hard ford man , you can't help him . let him believe he'll dislike you for proving him wrong and still won't believe it. :p :p :p

I'll take a "Binder" any day of the week as long as it's a mechanical DT466. Those things are indestructable, uncomplicated, and an inexpensive rebuild. Not to mention they are a beast on a pulling track. My Dad's 1982 5488 had the fuel screw keep backing out on him. They put it on the dyno, and it wouldn't pull down on the 300 HP scale. This is a 186HP rated at the factory tractor. The shop boss at the dealer was afraid he'd tear it up if he went to the 500HP scale. They turned it down to rated, and it was a dog. My Dad had been pulling weight equivalent to what a small-medium 4wd tractor would pull, based on the early 80s HP ratings, and they had to turn it back up to where it could pull the tools (24ft field cultivator and planter in Evansville, IN area heavy clay). We're guessing 250 HP. Only thing we had to do was replace the gears in the transmission and clutches. Never touched the engine (Knock on Wood) and doesn't use oil. The neighbor farmer down the road said he always knew when Dad was running, he could see the smoke. It was either Dad or a train running to Alcoa.

Ford is stupid either way:

1. If they owned Cummins, they are stupid for not putting in their own trucks.

2. Since they don't own Cummins, they are stupid for letting Dodge get Cummins first.

Aseigworth,

When I was at the Turbo Diesel Nationals in Columbus, IN. , we got a tour of the Cummins Midrange Engine Plant (5. 9 engines). At that time, they told us that the blocks were cast in Brazil & Mexico, along with some of the rough machining. The final machining & construction was done in Columbus, IN. This was in the summer of 2002.

Do you happen to know when they moved the casting process to Jamestown, NY? I hope that you are right. It would be nice to have as much of the building process, as possible, done in the US.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.
