Bird elimination

Gerson Lehrman Group

While the exchange of useful information is the primary purpose, jokes are fine unless they violate the TDR site rules-specifically regarding obscenity etc. We are trying to eliminate dirty jokes, I thought I wrote that clearly. Evidently not.

Sorry if there is confusion on that point.

PS I have no infor on the Bigot thread, I did not move or delete it, that must have been admin or somebody else. I will find out what I can.

TDK,,Thanks for enlightening me,guess I was 1/2 asleep when I read the thread,,Since we all know this, as said before, is only visible to the membership Dennis how can you honestly say its visible to the public???,,It doesn't matter to me what gets posted,if I do not want to read it I do not,,I have a major problem with those here who have nothing better to do than read a thread, not like whats said, then fire off a email to a moderator resulting in a warning or possible suspension ,when all they had to do was not be there in the first place,,Most threads can be seen for what they are from the title page and most know where to look and not too,,One thing to keep in mind here, and I've said it to others Dennis,if your going to play the rules then play them the same for EVERYONE. . Good Luck... ... Andy

P. S. -With the new Dodge Sheriff in town looks like we better cinch our gunbelts a notch tighter.....

Andy,

Sorry for the way that last post came across, i am just not very happy about this, and don't see the reason behind it.

Andrew:eek:

I don't think "Children" are reading any thing we write. Come on kids don't even know the difference between gas and diesel. I do beleive some high school age kids read this. I am sure they have heard far worse than anything we could say. I live in a free country that many men and women died for and I am not going to be part of something that goes against what this country is founded on. I just cancelled my credit card payment to the TDR. I will not pay to be a member of something that tries to take away my rights. If you are affended by jokes dont read them. How many good jokes do you know that is clean and still funny? Very few is how many I have heard and can not remember one know.

Come on, enough with this politial corectness BS. I enjoy the jokes and other things we talk about and I am sure I am with the majority. You play tippy toe so you will not insult the very few. I think I will start a poll on this.

And this little piggy said what he felt was relevant,

And this little piggy was deemed a racist.

And this little piggy had to fake it and pretend to be a dumb *** and pay 35 bucks to do so!

Maybe since this forum cannot seem to be moderated in an "even handed" manner it should be eliminated. That would be a shame, but I find the offense is caused by poor moderation rather than the members posts... . yes, my thread was considered racist.

Did our moderator serve as a juror on the "trial of the century"? Racism comes in ALL colors and one should not give up freedom of speech to pacify the unrealistic or due to the fear of being labeled.

If your babies are reading this forum you may find yourself at the mercy of DCS!

How many of my fellow members were offended by my thread?

Hey, I'm a Vegetarian...

Thanks for the warning :D

Hey Mark, you have to like vegetarians... ... ... ... . cows are vegetarians and you like steaks:p

Wow, Dennis, you're good. I've never gotten four pages of responses for anything I post in one day :) Maybe I'll try this in the "Events Forum"

Comeon guys, lighten up a little. All Dennis is trying to do is clean us up a little. I've seen some pretty nasty stuff posted in the Other Forum and I think Admin is a little tired of some of it. If we cut out the bad stuff and keep the language clean, we can still have a lot of fun. Save the really bad stuff for the campfires, and Briar and I will listen until our ears fall off :D

Doc

Give 'em a break fellas.

It's not a power trip. Just a guy trying to do what he thinks is right. That's what the TDR is asking him to do.

There are some members that may not care for dirty jokes or bad language. Yeah, I know the standard reply to that is "If you don't like it, don't read it". Well, sometimes you don't know a dirty joke until you've gotten to the end of. Then it's too late. Clean jokes can be funny. I've read several on this and other sites.

Would you like some guy telling dirty jokes in front of you wife? I wouldn't. There are several women that visit this site too.

It can't be boys night out all the time. There's gotta be a stopping point.

We also gotta remember, a public forum like this leaves the owners open to all kinds of lawsuits. There are instances like that all over the web. I've read of two site that were sued because member's of the site were bad mouthing a dealer.

This site is much more than a place to tell jokes. I know the "Other" forum can be a great place to read some interesting stuff. I'd like to see it stay.

Kevlar lined suit on and waiting. :D

I think where the difference in opinion here is whether or not you would call this a public forum. I tried to answer an email notification on this thread earlier today and couldn't get in because it said I was not logged in. I just don't know HOW my cookies got deleted  Anyway, if you have to log in to see the forum then you have to be a member so would you call it public? Besides, I haven't seen anything that would require "Adult I. D. Check" Um, that is, I hear that there is something called that out there that racy sites have to have to keep minors out of but I don't know first hand. Well, got to go finish hooking up the live web cam. I'll check back in to see how this thread progresses.

I agree with gitch

I just want to say let's remember that the moderators are volunteers. I think they are just trying to do the best they can. It's especially a tough job when it comes to the gray issues. I guess my point is, let's try to give the moderators the benefit of the doubt. I happen to know Dennis personally (from one meeting), and he doesn't strike me as being a fanatic or anything - he's a good guy just trying to do what he thinks is right. I can't imagine that we would all be able to agree with everything here all the time, so maybe we can at least respect the opinions that don't happen to be ours. I do think the Pattons have the right to establish the rules for their site. No one is forcing any of us to be on here or to be a part of the club. I also think there's a concern that there has been some double standard stuff going on - and I think that's tough to avoid when dealing with different personalities, moderators, and gray issues. Unfortunately for Dennis, he's catching the heat for some pent up feelings that have been brewing since way before he became a moderator. So let's give the moderators a break - it's no fun getting beat up over something you do as a volunteer.

TDK,,No need to apologize for it,I understand what your saying and I completely agree,,If moderation was a across the board even line deal there would be no quibbles at all,,It seems like lately there is a very uneven line to this and thats where I mean,,One thing may be good for one but someone else does something simular and POOF, all gone, both the post and them,go figure,,Again, nothing against Dennis,he doing what he's told to do and trying to set his tone for this forum which i have no problems with as long as its the same evenly across the board,period... ... Now I need to get the leather tools out and retool my gunbelt alittle... ... .

P. S. -I agree with the "Motor City Madman" Ted for moderator, lets put him in the products/accessories forum... .

Boy it sure is fun coming home to stuff like this after close to 48 hrs of wrenching on my truck  ! First of all 956Wheel as I had told you in a message that I sent you late monday night (about 50 hours ago) I had nothing to do with the removal of your post (contrary to your statement above) and that I would look into why it was deleted, etc and get back to you as soon as I could. I asked you to have a little patience because of the unavailability of many of the people responsible for the website because of the server move - thanks for the patience.

Onto the "uneven" moderating issues. There are 9 moderators on the site, a webmaster, and the owners of the site. Many times something is borderline on whether it's within the guidelines or not - one moderator may see it as over the line, another on the line, and another just behind the line. There are approximately 700 posts put on the site every single day. Sometimes things don't get seen by a moderator at all - we're NOT perfect. It's impossible for us to watch and read EVERY single post put on the site. Also, the moderators (with the exception of myself and of course the webmaster and owners) basically cover their own forums. Maybe one of you guys can tell us how we can clone one person's brain and put it into the other 10 of us? Sorry, we're human - we don't all think EXACTLY alike.

One of the owners of the site recently called me to ask that we remove the Other forum completely from the site as was mentioned above. I said I didn't think that was necessary and that it would be unforetunate if we did so. I think that the other forum helps form a bond between the members and make it feel like a larger family. What we did decide to do was make the other forum a members only forum that day - and we've been so busy with trying to get the new servers up and running (you wouldn't believe all the issues we've had to deal with on THAT one) that we didn't even have time to let the moderators know that change had been made. So don't yell at Dennis about that - he didn't know, yell at me or the owners.

Right from the front page of the website "The purpose of the Turbo Diesel Register Website is to parallel that of the TDR Magazine: to provide an open forum for the positive exchange of information. And as previously noted, our goal is to give Turbo Diesel owners more satisfaction in the ownership of their truck. " From the guidelines it states "The TDR Website Discussion Forum is designed to help owners solicit input from others on the proper maintenance and operation of their truck. " You all agreed to abide by those guidelines when you signed up for the site. Dennis has just been thrown into this position and he was specifically chosen by the owners of the site because he was conservative. There are many jokes posted in the other forum (for one thing) that offend many members - we get the complaints all the time. On the old tired "if you don't like it don't read it" deal - remember, they paid too. The point of this website is to improve the satisfaction of owning your truck. I feel that the other forum does build comradery, however we do not need to tell dirty jokes in here to do that. The guidelines also state to "keep it clean". If you wish to tell and read dirty jokes there are a MILLION places on the internet that you can do that, it doesn't need to be done here as well - it's not the point of the site in any way shape or form. Why did you subscribe to the TDR magazine and sign up for access to the TDR site?

Remember, if you become unsatisfied with your subscription to the TDR you can request a refund at any time by emailing rpatton@ix.netcom.com and they will promptly send it out - I know of noone that has requested a refund and not gotten it.

There is very little that offends me but I feel it's best to go to a website that specializes in it and keep the dirty jokes off TDR. Don't go to this site, http://www.dirtyjokepost.com/ and offend the folks there with diesel questions though.

If there is a post that deserves deleting it's Mark_Kendrick's worthless pictures above that are forced on my slow phone line connection.

Thanks Mark

censorship, individual responsibility

when i view something being censored i think of big brother and politburo. i probably react the other way more than what is called for. however, when i hear the "r" word being injected i really react. i'm flat out sick of people attaching 'racism" to any and all things one doesn't agree with. kind of like brother, the reverand, jacksooon, rev. al sharpguy and brother loooie, louie the f man faraakan!! i guess my use of that terminology counts and me being racist. my point is before the "r" word is invoked you ought to have iron clad proof that racism is in fact being propigated on this site !!! i believe we now use the phrase "rush to judgment" and imo inappropriate censorship is political correctness run a muck!!! real hard in this forum to determine intent !!!!!! usually one reserves that for a face to face encounter, looking one in the eyes, reading ones nonverbals and the inflection of voice, etc. nuff said, i feel better and enjoyed this cathartic release. bruce
