Nothing but disappointments w/ my 6. 7 Bone stock 4x4 q/c

oil change required light on approx. every 2k dealer has confirmed it is not a glitch that the oil was toast. At this time my truck has 13k on it. The dealer I bought the truck from gives free oil changes for life. Pretty cool! But I like amsoil products and I'll be __ __ if I am going to put amsoil in something that ruins the oil so quickly. The check engine light practically stays on. When I carry it in for an oilchange the dealer pulls the codes and tells me the chrysler rep wii get back with a flash to fix it. Every time iI go in I get the codes pulled and erased, drive off and within an hour or so the cel comes on again. Thursday 1-17 last week I took it in to get the usual oilchange codes pulled etc. and this time it had 3 stored and 1 active same thing the dealer does not know what is wrong and the rep will be here on Tuesdayad 1-22 . However on Friday the 1-18 the truck displayed a cel and started running goofy losing power and finally cut off in the worst /most dangerous place you could imagine. . crossing 6 lanes with aa 5' median and these cars haul butt. Lucky it fired back up and it seemd to run weak but wasn't sure. The truck stayed parked until today. I drove a short distance and the truck started stumbling and running just exactly like a gasser that was running out of fuel. The overhead said catalyst 90% full and within 3 min it said 100% full. First time it has ever displayed anything about the dpf system. On my way to the dealership the truck stumbled lost power would not run but 30 mph and then shut off and would not fire up again. dealer sent a tow truck and a driver to carry me back to the dealer ship. They were very nice and gave me a loaner truck and immediately had their top gun start working on it. They ordered a new dpf and said it was completely plugged up The dealer told me that they were very aggravated by this because the chrysler corp could not give the dealers the fix and that they would replace parts for me for a very very long time no questions asked.

i think some dealers are claiming to flash these things when actually they are just resetting the codes . my selling dealer was doing that i think . i only had one dpf code and took it in and could never get them to give me any paperwork or a sticker under the hood like they're supposed to . found new dealer and everything is fine .

Sounds like a dealer problem more than anything else...

I completely agree. Do you know what flash level is currently in your truck? Do you know what codes it has been throwing? The latest flashes have all but eliminated the DPF full messages for most drivers. There are two very important TSB's that the dealer needs to follow to make sure the system is operating properly. The EGR system and turbo need to be checked and cleaned/replaced, the dealer needs to run a forced regeneration. And most pays actual time so the "Chrysler does not pay" doesn't even hold water any more. Unless you have a VERY strange duty cycle you should not be having these repeat problems. I would be asking my dealer the questions above, and if he does not have a very straightforward answer for the questions above I would find a new dealer that understands the 6. 7.

Yes but no The dealer has had me sign papers each time but I do not have a copy at this time. I know it has been several codes starting with the prefix "p" and some are stored and some are active. I am sorry I am too frustrated to talk about it.

Brand new complete exhaust less than 100 mi. and now says catalyst 100% full and the truck is running goofy again/ no power /limp mode?
I've been very patient but am just about ready to show out and be ugly ... . if you guys don't hear from me for a while I may have gotten myself a little timeout if you know what I mean. Man I really hope I don't.

Rewind ... . yesterday dealership installed a complete new stock exh. turbo back all factory... . cleared all codes ... . forced 1 regen and drove the truck long enough it completed an additional regen on its own and thI am extremely mechanical in certain areas but I have very little time to deal with this and I really dont enjoy working on mybrand new truck myself + I do not want to invest in big $$$$tools to diagnose these newer vehicles. this post should have appeared just before the one above it . sorry

you seriously need to find a different dealer... . I have a feeling these guys are missing something very basic. I bet they think they have gotten you the updated flash, but I would almost bet that its not been done correctly. I think your dealer is making this more of a headache than it should be. trust me, I went through this a long time ago with a half-ton and a local dealer, kept having the same problems over and over, switched dealers and what do ya know, problem fixed!

I am going to call other dealers Monday a. m. and speak with their top gun and see if they have had similar exp. and I will take notes. Also wouldn't STAR have all of the data of similar situations and have informed my dealer of how to fix this problem??? I know for a fact my dealer has been calling them every time and doing what STAR says to do. They have even been driving around with the Star tool inside the truck forcing regens And collecting data. I am stiil optimistic they will fix it & I will have a good truck... but boy it is frustrating . Thanks Guys

you seriously need to find another dealer . the dealer i boght mine from didn't have a clue about these trucks . even if star tells a dealer to do something , it doesn't mean they did it right . i haven't really had a lot of problems with my truck but have been much happier and more confident with the new dealer .

Try to find a Business Link dealer if your current dealer is not one. Business Link dealers are set up for the 4500/5500 which are only diesels and they sell the Sprinter. They should have very experienced diesel machanics which would lead me to believe they should be able to fix your problems right the first time.

dealer

Tallahassee, Florida but I've been going to Quitman,Georgia.

Sorry I am not able to help you I am in MD

I am happy with the dealership I go to. I am one of those with 8k on the truck and no issues to complain about. I always get the new flashes done when they come out.

O. K. here goes

10/03/07... ... Code p2262... ... flashed

11/08/07... ... code p2000..... ECM up to date

1/23/08 Flash AY... Replaced DPF system Cleaned all sensors R&R EGR system and crossover pipe called STAR Case #9343619 said regen problem idling too long need to get out on highway and drive and said to make sure to use ulsd. This does not even cover the entire episode Friday when the replaced the entire exhaust system that they had just replaced the dpf on one day earlier And not to mention the check engine light that came on friday evening and the goofy driveability sputtering / no-power stunt Friday night nor does it include whatever they did to it today when i took it in for Fridays Stunt... . Nor the fact that as soon as I get 55 miles form dealership the check engine light came on ... and i swear the truck smells like it is on fire when I get out . I don't like second guessing the dealer without all the information, but I would have several questions/concerns based on YOUR info and time line. First is that the dealer performed the bootloader flash. It can be checked with the StarScan, ECU view and the bootloader software version needs to be at 000502. If it is at 000500 the bootloader was never done. It only needs to be done one time, but does need to be done on all 2007 trucks. Also the new AX flash is out today for the 2007, so they need to reflash it, even if it was just flashed Friday.
The second potential problem is with the EGR system. Since the P0489 code has returned I would question the system was inspected/cleaned properly. Are there gaskets charged out on the repair order? The TSB says the EGR has to be disassembled and cleaned, as well as the cooler. If the EGR is stuck open it will add additional soot to the exhaust stream that is not supposed to be there. Also ask the dealer if the truck shows it completed a regeneration. If they forgot to "reset the regenerative timers" this info may not be accurate. It is very unusual that the DPF would plug 100 miles after being replaced unless there is something else going on like a stuck EGR or misfire. I would also be concerned at the P2267 and make sure there is not any water in the fuel system. Also make sure you are running ULSD.
And finally if the intake and EGR/exhaust system is really that sooted, they should double check with STAR that the turbo might need to be replaced. I see the p2262 has come up twice, so there is a fair chance the turbo actuator may be sooted up. I would then ask that they drive it forcing a regen and watching the PT/Combustion monitor to verify the truck is going through a regeneration. If they did this before returning the truck to you, they would normally have driven it the 55 miles you drove it before the CEL came back on. This will normally take about an hour to complete.
The TSB's are very complete, and they will take several hours each to perform. But they are only good if they are followed closely.
And if you are idling it more than you should, be sure the high idle feature is enabled so you can idle it up. This will significantly reduce the soot load the DPF has to deal with, and should extend the oil change interval as well.
Forgot to mention that the P2000 can be caused by o2 sensor being sooted up. And there should be about 8 gaskets required to perform the TSB 18-003-07.

Truck still running goofy It recieved the flash that was released yesterday. I have no record of any gaskets being put on a work order however they did not give me a work order for yesterday . . als my chrome tip on the exhuast is burnt yellow now I am guessing the truck is doing regens now and has not been until the last few days i know it smells like it is absolutely cooking under there. The soot in the tip is the thickest I have ever seen. never sooty until the last 3-4 days ... I do believe the truck is regening on a very regular basis just from the percieved extra heat and the smell... . and I am certainly convinced that until 3-4 days ago it never had. I have noticed when it does lose power and start to run goofy it makes a deep bassy sound almost like a 4 barrell opening with an engine that is under such a heavy load that it wont build rpm's. . eventually it takes off like a missile ... . possibly extremely pronounced turbo lag. I have faith that if I have patience this will eventually become resolved... . thanks every body.

In shop again today... running goofy/ check engine. They replaced egr throttle controller today. Bootloader flah had been done during dealer prep of new trucl S. O. P. According to the dealer... Tension seems to be building and my extreme patience with this is now not being reciprocal with the service dept. spoke with the owner today for 2 hours he was nice, understanding and puzzled by my trucks problems within 10 min. of leaving dealership check engine light was on again. Seemed to run O. K. though . Apparently the part that was needed was robbed from a new truck because it is not available at this time period. I am gonna quit posting about it. I am feeling like you guys are probably tired of hearing about it. I really thought I would have some great news as to what would have fixed it by now... . sorry.
