It's not clear from the TSB what model years it applies to. At the very begining it clearly states model years affected 2004. No mention of other years. Later it goes into detail about how to enable it on other years though.



It looks to me so far like everyone who has had it done owns a 2004 model. I'd just like to be sure before I talk to the dealer that it is in fact available for the 2003 trucks.

I had the recall items dealt with yesterday and asked to have the high idle feature enabled. When I picked it up, they said they couldn't do it because its an '03. I haven't dug any deeper to find out if they are right.

That appears to be BS. The TSB posted seems to indicate a procedure for doing this for the 03. I am taking my truck in in the morning with the tsb in hand. I am having the transmission line and pcm/harness seal done.

The following procedures mention earlier models. If 2003 models can have it, why wouldn't it be listed under "MODELS:" though? If they can't have it, why mention them at all? They could easily have pulled those lines from the standard "How you access the ECM data" that they use verbatim each time.



If I had to guess I'd assume this does only apply to the 2004 trucks and that they are just cut and pasting standard access verbage.

It states engines before 10/03 and if 04 follow a different path to achieve the same affect. It seemed clear.

Yes but I think that only applies to engines within the given parameter of 2004 models only. Otherwise first gens would have it also based on that one statement.



The procedures for flashing/accessing mention back to 1998. 5, so I say, no, it still is not clear at all.



As soon as someone who has a 2003 or earlier that has it enabled we'll have an answer. Or if no one can get it done on those models we'll have a different answer.

Aside from how the TSB reads it may not be possible to enable this feature on '03 trucks due to the PCM. If my memory serves me correctly I read somewhere that 2003 trucks use a Dodge PCM while 2004 trucks use a Cummins PCM. So it's possible the Dodge PCM does not have this high idle feature available to activate.



Of course my memory is pretty lousy so don't take the above statement as gospel .

I just spoke with a tech at Carson Dodge and he is in agreement about the 03's, he said he would find out and let me know.

From reading the Tsb it indicates 1998. 5 through 2004. Thats at least how I read it. Talked to a tech instructor who free lances for several manufacturer's. He wondered why on 6 speeds they didn't run it through the speed sensor etc. He also commented that he thought he could enable this feature and set it up with a toggle switch???Said to enable cruise to activate a high rpm wasn't a big thing to accomplish.

ROSCO, The 2004 don't have a Cummins PCM they have an expanded Cummins ECM that runs the engine and the 48RE transmission.

I have a 2003 3500 auto whend't to the dealer today to have the flash done for hi idle computer said no flash available for 2003 PCM. Changed model to 2004 flash came up but would not install. i would guess can only be done on 2004 . dealar is a good frend we tried every thing and could not flash 2003 truck with 2004 tbs for hi idle hickory
