Just went to Wal-Mart and picked up some gear lube for the rear axle and after I bought it, I got to reading the label and it doesn't say anything about running it in limited slip differentials. The oil I got is the Shell Rotella Heavy Duty Gear Oil 80W-90, has anyone used this before? The last stuff I used was Valvoline and it stated on the label it could be used with limited slips, but this stuff just says it is good for heavy duty applications in a wide variety of differentials, so to me that sounds like I shouldn't need a friction modifier to add in with the oil right?

Thanks for the help! Joe

Pay the rather small premium and purchase the additive from either a Dodge dealer or Ford dealer.

I personally like the stuff from Ford, some have said that they're both the same product, but I could tell the difference in my vehicles.

It runs around $5-7/bottle at either dealer.

If you feel the clutches chattering on tight turns, add the additive 1/2 bottle at a time. There is a chance your clutches won't chatter and in case you won't need the additive at all.

The additive's purpose is to make the gear oil more 'slippery' for lack of a better way to put it, and it keeps the clutches from grabbing---more of a NVH and longevity thing.

Man, what a hassle, I am just gonna take back the Rotella and get the Valvoline that has the limited slip stuff in it already. Cheaper that buying oil and then an additive. Not to mention I hate the stealership. Oh well, thanks anyway guys... . :)
