Ford 6.0

Diesel Mototcycles anyone...

My roommate just received a brand new F-350 equipped with the 6. 0 as a work truck. When he got home with it I had to pop the hood. All I could think was... ... cluster ******. I could not imagine working on that piece of crap. It is so cramped. He is just as big of a Cummins lover as I am but he had no say in the purchase.

The first day he got it he had to take it back to the dealer after 200 miles because it wouldn't hold any water. It ran hot for a minute and found the radiator was dry. He had to fill it up twice before he made it back to the dealer. It ended up being a broken hose clamp going to the water pump. They had to take out the radiator, fan, shroud, and others just to put a clamp on.

This makes me appreciate my Cummins more. I think I'm Cummins for life!!!

The ONLY reason so many ferds are sold to big companies and state/federal orgainzations is because they win the CHEAPEST BID! We all know what goes with cheap price... a cheap quality product and cheap service. I will GLADLY pay more for quality, just like I do with anything else I purchase. By the way, we are all Dodge/Cummins here at our family business... and I do have some say so over that! :D Pay a little more, get a lot more in return!

I had a chance to visit with two friends over the July 4th holiday who own a Furd6. One has a 250 SRW daily driver. The other is a 350DRW that is used to haul moderate loads(~7000lbs). In each case they lope for a couple of minutes when started cold. The 350 has a hard time with hot starts as well. Both require atleast 1 to 2 miuntes before they will move after starting. I hit the pedal WOT on the 350 after 60 seconds and the truck did not budge. It does sound pretty wild like a jet engine when spooling. The owner of the 250 is fed up and looking for a gasser. The guy with the 350 is so far into debt he can't get rid of the truck. Glad I bought a CTD.

I've got a friend that's a die hard ford guy. He's got an '05 F350 SRW. Blew the transmission at like 12K. Something internal fell apart, a fluke I guess. Now it runs hot all the time. Water level OK, everything good, just hot. He had an offer a couple weeks ago from a former classmate of his who is now a chevy salesman to trade even up for a new chevy. Just exchange keys and title for an identically set-up truck with no miles vs. 15K. He stopped in today and was still driving the Ford--go figure.

hey same situation got an 05' powerpuke for a work truck lwb 350 6. 0 6 speed and its a dog. already had the reflash and now the master cylinder is leaking and the parking brake only works half the time!!! but the dealer wiped off the leaked fluid drove it about 2 blocks and says everything is ok???? also got an 04' f-150 in the buyback situation and its looking to be a long process. But my 03' 107k mi cummins still roars to life no matter WHAT!!!

UPDATE: My roommate said he got waxed by an '05 CTD yesterday. It was a dually 4dr 2wd vs. his F-350 dually 4dr 4x4. They were both waiting for the green and he said the Dodge absolutely killed him off the line. It didn't have any exhaust or excess smoke so he thinks it was stock. Off the line it pulled so hard and then continued to pull after the 6. 0 got spooled up. I drove the 6. 0 and it sucks. I can't believe how long it takes for it to get going. It feels like the auto takes away a lot of power.

My girlfriend has an "05 F350, DRW, CrewCab, 4x4, 6. 0. Its a huge pile of crap. She's had it for 3 months and it's been in the shop 6 times already. Transmission, Serpentine belt broke & Transmission, Overheating, brake controller not working, brake controller again, and now it's in for overheating again. What a piece of garbage!

Good looking truck tho, I really like the interior. But that doesn't make up for not being able to go anywhere!

IT'S NOT A FLUKE. After all the bashing I hear about Dodges autos, Ford now has 2 TSB's out on the torch shift. One is for planetary pins backing out and destroying the case. I forget what the other was for. My 48RE has 20,000 miles on it now and not a whimper. And I do a good bit of towing, from 5-20k. At least DC will stand behind it for 70K. after 36 on Phord and Cheby your on your own. Our company is going away from the Ford 550's because of all the problems. Going with GMC 5500's with D-maxes. They might consider DC if they built a 45/5500. HELLO DC HELLO Oo. ... Doug

I work for a Ford dealership (not much longer though :) ) and I will attest to the crappiness of the transmission. We had a guy in with 4000 miles on his f250 with the v8. The tech took out the transmission filter and it was full of metal shavings, as was the pan. Ended up putting new transmission in it. The guy is trading it off for a Chevy. Those 6. 0hs are horrible. You are right saying they are a clusterf*ck. Right now I'm working on an excursion that blows the engine control fuse every time you turn on the key. With only about a hundred wires going to and from the PCM, this is not going to be fun.

I have a good friend with an '05 6. 0 dually he bought to replace his 7. 3 SRW & he's very disappointed with it. His best empty mileage (1 ton 4dr 2wd dually) is 15mpg, his SRW 7. 3 would knock down 20-21 & ran great. This one's been back to the dealer several times for several "mystery symptoms" including low power. How does a major player in this market take such a huge step backwards?

Jeez you guys are scaring the snot outta me :eek: The company just bought me an '05 f550 for a new service truck,I'm sure it's got a 6. 0 in it :{

I asked for a dodge and the GM (general manager) laughed at me. Maybe I should get AAA? I know a guy with an 03 6. 0, loves the truck, loves the engine, hates all the ferd stuff bolted to it. He has been thru 1 turbo, 3 turbo controllers, and 2 weeks ago the top came off an injector. He told me other things, but I can't remember what. Man, I coulda had a L6! :D (get it? i coulda had a v8?)

NOTE: The Dodges cost less than the Fords at the dealer - want to revise your statement?

As for the boring debate about Cummins vs. Int'l, I've had my 6. 0 for 54k miles and not a single problem. Before you rant at the issues the 6. 0 has, read your own forums for awhile. Bottom line is that all domestic products have issues, and the problem trucks who have knowledgable owners post their problems on these sites. Therefore, you get what you read - negative posts about this problem and that problem on Fords, Dodges, and Chevys.

I buy what I like best - I don't care who makes it. When Dodge makes a crew cab short wheelbase, I'll look at one. Until then, I'm buying either Fords or Chevys.

Nutin wrong with the 6. 0 been around for a while. Ford used there own computer instead of navistars. Ford cranked up the power on it to compete with dodge and chev. To me sounds like no or little R&D on ford's behalf went into the dang thing.

I have a funny feeling ford will some day go with an I6. Just don't know who's engine it will be. Being in last place since the 6. 0 , They will be desperate to be back on top again?

Our company has three Fords. :(

99 F-250

01 F-550

03 F-350

They have all been in for numerous problems. The last time we had to tow the 550 to the mechanic, the owner of the shop(who has all Ford service/tow trucks) said "I see alot more problems with the Fords than I do with the Dodges. I hate to admit it but my next truck is going to be a DODGE!"

BTW, our high mileage truck is a 95 Ram 2500 with about 275,000 miles. Purrs like a kitten. In all fairness it did have to go in for a starting problem about a year and a half ago. :D

I hope the infiltrating Ford owner who posted above both notes and appreciates that UNLIKE the Ford forums he is also undoubtedly a member of, HERE, we dont't cuss or ban you if you post pro-Ford or anti-dodge stuff... ;) :D

"Good looking truck tho, I really like the interior. But that doesn't make up for not being able to go anywhere!"

Well, the interior SOME owners like so much was actually a courtesy move on Ford's part to accomodate the many owners who would be spending LOTS of time admiring that interior as they wait for a tow truck...

I'm in the market for a new crewcab and I'm looking at Dodge, Ford, and GM. I drove a Ford yesterday and was not impressed. The interior seemed fairly cheap. It didn't seem much different than our '98 Expedition. The ride was nice, but I was surprised by the amount of turbo lag. I thought mine was bad, but the Ford was noticeably worse. Before we left, I opened the hood and couldn't believe the clutter. I told the salesman that I would much rather work on the cummins.

I watch the threads on rv.net and am amazed at how people complain about the interiors of all three brands. Seems like none come out on top on interiors. I certainly very happy with my SLT, and the Laramie is really spiffy IMHO.

It also seems that all brands have a very loyal following, which leads me to believe that in the end, all three brands are for the most part pretty good. Not that it makes any difference to me because I would not cosider anything other than what I already have, 'cept for maybe a different color and maybe 2WD.
