The towing thread got me to thinking. What about putting together a support group of all the TDR members (that want to participate). We could have this printed annually with local addresses and contact numbers. It would strictly be voluntary, but it would be great when away from home if you could call on one of the "family" for help. I am betting that most of us would lend a hand if we were home when the call came in. What do you all think?

It has been seven years now since this idea turned into the TDR Travel Companion.

I have got a couple of calls, one about two years ago from a member that was traveling and had an unfortunate incident with his truck and was seeking a local repair shop and yesterday I got the first call just to chat from a member that lives in my home town, he has invited me over.

Just another valuable resource as a member here.

Norfolk, VA area members watch out, I am in the area and might be calling some in the next couple months, will need to get a LOF done before returning to the west coast.

I like the idea. I'm planning on traveling to Colorado and other areas this year and would enjoy attending other area/regional TDR group meetings and members. Steve Weeks

OK, Shelby... it WAS your idea. I nominate you for the person to gather data and put out the list!!

Although this will be a lot of work, it is one of the best ideas I have heard!

My email is on its way to YOU!

For those of us who were around in this boards infancy (ie: the cummins diesel website), there was a page that listed all the members by state(which I happened to save. . hehehe). I realize this wouldn't be practical for a membership this large, but another forum with messages by state would work (ie: don't allow new posts, just reply's, set a post up for each state, etc... ). This way, people could add themselves if the wanted, and remove themselves (by deleting their reply) if they decided to drop out.

This is a great idea, but we need to keep privacy in mind. A new forum on this website, listing members names/addresses/phone numbers would be viewable by anybody in the world. I believe Robert Patton has declined this idea (a TDR membership roster) in the past due to privacy issues. However, if it was completely voluntary, and if there was a way to keep members' information private and not let it get broadcast worldwide, I think this would be great for helping with problems, peace of mind, and/or just looking up new friends while traveling.
The simplest way would be for one of us to collect the info of those who submit it, organize it, and re-send it back to every submitter. All list members should be honor-bound to not use the list for any personal gain, sell it, or forward it to anybody.
Also, keep in mind if you're on this list and you move, change phone numbers, etc. , the "keeper of the list" should be informed.
