Since everybody that posts here already has a username and password, adding a private area to this web site that requires authentication is pretty much a no brainer. There can be a HTML form that users would use to input the data, and then this form would update a database for viewing. Since the final information is in a database, the information could be queried by any of the fields, (ie. location, services, name, etc... )

Another way to do this is by using Outlook Web Access to view a public folder in a Microsoft Exchange Server. The public folder require authentication to view. Without knowing how this site is setup, or any of the technical details about this site. I can only speculate on what is possible. I am willing to provide any assistance to get this project going, including some HTTP work if needed. I work full time as a Network Administrator, so I have the tools and resources available to solve just about any problem.

When you're out in the boonies, you may not have access to the site and the information on it. Also, carrying it with you isn't all that good, because it can change.

I, for instance, have a nation-wide toll free number, and have a cell phone wiht me almost every moment I'm not home. Now, when I'm not home, i'm at school, and have internet at my disposal.

Now, the way i see it, is that 4 or 5 of us should offer our numbers to the members, and the members carry those with them, and at least one of us would be able to access the database, and get the name/number of someone local.

Am I off base here, or is that what we're looking for?

I, for one, am willing to offer my time and give out my toll free number, for those times when access is tough.

I live in a 24x7 environment supporting worldwide customers. We have a real live person answer a 1 800 number and then dispatch the call appropriately.

I'll check to see if we could handle this TDR member support dispatching also but I'm sure there would be a cost of some sort.

Do you suppose us members would pay to subscribe to the telephone method of database access? I would.

The way I see it, if one of us was taking off on a trip, we'd print out the list of members in whatever states we'd be driving through, right before we leave. Then the printout would (theoretically) be up to date.

Sounds great. Count me in. Im always looking for an excuse to meet fellow Rammer. And help them as well. Be willing to set up a phone book for Oregon members.

I think this is a great idea. The wife and I do so traveling and since I'm a novice diesel owner this might come in handy. Like I said I still learning, but I'll help with what ever you need.

This is one the best ideas in awhile. I'm certainly interested and will do anything I can to help get this off the ground. Maybe we could have one or two contact people in each state, that in turn could put you in touch with the closest member or the one most able to assist.

I would also be interested in this
idea. My wife and I own an R. V. and
are members of the F. M. C. A. (Family
Motor Coach Association).

They have a thick book much like
"Barry" described with the "Gold
Wing Road Riders" that has a list
of members willing to help each
other etc.

I'll throw my name in the bucket, and lend a hand with the organization. I have plenty of time and unlimited computer/Internet resources.

Outstanding!! I'm in.

It is being worked on as we speak. Different software packages are being evaluated to find the best one to use. We don't want to roll it out and then have it be disappointing. Thanks for your patience and again thanks for a GREAT idea!
