Mood Rings - Be Carefull

V-22 Osprey ROCKS!

OK guys, I suggested it, but I am somewhat overwhelmed by the responses both here and in private e-mail. I agree with the privacy issue, there probably is a lot of members that wish to remain anonymous. I had suggested to Rob Hanson that maybe a possible way to do this is a voluntary check box on our yearly registration cards. From this indication of a willingness to participate, the TDR staff could then add you to the list. I would imagine that they have all of our vitals on record for mailing purposes, so this list would just be a sub list of the master list. This sub list could then be published yearly, quarterly or whatever we want. Don't know how much this would cost, but even if there was a small fee associated with this directory, to cover printing and postage, I am sure it would be a valuable resource and worth any extra cost we may have to pay.

It would be nice for this to also be web based, perhaps in a members only area. I suppose all members would have access, whether they participated or not.

This seems to be a real popular idea that needs to be explored in more depth. I am hopeful that Robert Patton might chime in here and give us his thoughts. Maybe there is some better way to achieve this list than what I have suggested. I suppose the hard copy really would not be needed, one could print the "friends" by state prior to leaving on a trip and take that copy with you. Web access alone wouldn't help much while you are stranded someplace.

I am a member of my state land surveyor's professional society, and each year the full roster is printed as well as being on our web site in an excel format. The spreadsheet is in a members only area, you do need a user name and password to access that info, but other than that any member could look at it. Same deal as Andy mentioned above, member use only for the purpose intended.

I am excited about this idea, just don't know if I have the time and resources to commit to doing this right.

Me too, maybe the list can be accessed with our existing password and user name, that would keep out the non TDR folks.

Great idea Shelby, we all need to stick together. Count me in. The privacy issue being what it is, I would hope the webmaster would set up the list so you need to be a member and have a password, to access the list.

just 'nuter thought - setit up as the "monitor" form and have it by listed by state. We can access it and then do our own printing. Lets keep the work for the Admin types small. We can add/delete ourselves and if we delete ourselves we lose the access. The monitor would be the one who adds the member so they can access the form & if "caught" abusing it would be denied access.

What u 'all think about this????

Consider this: When I was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Assoc. you would recieve a "Gold Book" which listed the members that wanted to participate. By state and city. Their name address and phone #. There was also a numeric code beside your name that listed if you could provide: Help, tools, a pick-up and trailer, if you had storage and or shelter, camping site available etc. In any event, count me in. I have a shop, RV service, tools, RV hook ups, Major service close by, etc.

Barry,

This sounds very much like what I had in mind.

a greast idea but, is anyone doing anything towards providing the list?

I'd willingly participate both in providing help and data gathering/distribution.

But, this will all be for naught if the integrity of the recipients is not maintained.

lizzyhermit,

I can't answer your question. So far I don't think it has gone past my suggesting the idea, and lots of folks being interested. See the post in this thread by Andy Perreault, Administrator on 01-14-01.

Andy, have the administrators approached Robert Patton about this thread? What needs to be done to get the TDR blessing or thumbs down?

Sure we could put this together in the form of a mail list or something, but I still think the easy way would be to set this up through the TDR. The best idea I have seen so far is the one by Ben Stair just a few posts up. This would allow voluntary participation though a link on the TDR site, and could be administered by the users. You print the list by state when traveling. Nobody has to baby sit the list using this method.
