New AMSOIL By-Pass Filtration Kits

AMSOIL Technical Director Dan Peterson discusses upgrades to the BMK kits.

AMSOIL is introducing significant updates to the by-pass filtration systems in May, offering many improvements to the popular BMK kits. AMSOIL Technical Director Dan Peterson sat down with the Hotwire to provide Dealers with a little advance information on the new kits.

Hotwire: Why make changes to the by-pass systems?

Dan Peterson: AMSOIL is committed to continually improving product performance and customer satisfaction in all aspects of our business. Fresh ideas, new concepts and considerable research led to improvements in our by-pass filtration products. The new kits were designed specifically with Ea Filters in mind and include additional features that provide improved performance, increased longevity and easier installation. The design of the original billet mounts restricted our ability to improve the performance of the overall system. The improvements implemented will help AMSOIL Dealers be even more successful in marketing and selling products in this quickly-emerging area.

HW: What are some of the benefits of the new BMK By-Pass Systems?

DP: Several improvements were made. For example, oil flow has been improved throughout the entire system to ensure the precise amount of lubricant is flowing through the by-pass system while simultaneously keeping the engine protected. This is typically measured in terms of flow (gpm) and pressure drop across the system. Larger ports, increased hose diameter and larger fittings were implemented to increase flow, ensuring full compatibility with all OEM oil pressure sensor systems. In addition, extra hose is included with the kits to make sure most tough installations can be completed without having to order more hose to finish the job. Also, new adapters were designed that are much easier to install and provide improved durability to withstand harsh environments.

HW: Do these improvements mean there will be an increase in price?

DP: AMSOIL by-pass systems haven't risen in price over the past three years while the cost of their components has risen steadily. With these improvements pending, AMSOIL refrained from increasing prices on by-pass kits when price adjustments were made for other products. Four extra feet of larger-diameter hose and upgraded oil filter adapters have combined with the increases in general components to force AMSOIL to adjust pricing. These upgrades improve the quality and performance of the systems, and even with a price increase, AMSOIL by-pass kits are still less expensive than competitors' by-pass units.

Q: In the old Dual Remote BMK systems, oil flowed into the by-pass filter first, then the full-flow filter. In the new BMK mounts, the opposite is true. Why the change?

DP: The new by-pass systems were designed to more precisely meter the oil through the system via an engineered flow regulator. The flow regulator replaces the spring-loaded valve in the original systems and requires switching the position of the full-flow filter and the by-pass filter.

HW: Everything we've discussed has related to the dual remote mounts. Have there been changes to the BMK11 as well?

DP: The BMK11 is manufactured using a new process that is consistent with the design of the dual remote mounts. There were no other changes made to this by-pass system.

HW: Are the new by-pass systems compatible with the AMS-Oiler™ Oil Pre-Charger?

DP: Yes, these systems are designed to run with the AMS-Oiler.

BMK By-Pass Filtration Kits will have new part numbers as well.
