I drove into a dirt bank and knocked the front air dam off. My first thought was "what a worthless piece of plastic" but I picked it up anyway.

What is it's purpose? Should I replace it?

Thanks, Glen

There was a thread on this subject a while back. I seems that it is worthwhile keeping it. I was thinking about removing mine, untill I read the thread. :)

Well now I don't feel so bad about tearing mine off while 4 wheeling... . so much for ground guides... (He said... I didn't think it would hurt it... ) $78 later I will have a new one on. Ordered it from Dave Smith motors... . tell them that you are a TDR member great deals.

I ripped mine about 12" down one side also wheelin' in my back yard.

The ******* here wants $115 for it. For that much I figured I can live without it.

That $78 sounds better... . I'd do that but im sure shipping will = the $115 I would spend here at my local dealership.

Oh well, Life goes on.

I read the air dam threads and I still can't decide if I will replace it. This truck is so long that turning around on the logging roads will remove it again.

Of course I can't tell for sure but it seems that I am getting a little better fuel milage without the air dam.

I'm not sure about our trucks, but on other vehicles the air dam creates a negative pressure behind the radiator, increasing air flow and cooling. You may miss the air dam on a hot day cruising down the highway, running the AC and pulling a load.

Front Air Dammmmmmmm

Gee, my better half came home from the pool this morning and shock of shocks, 90% gone

Must be the moon or something so many dammmmmms ending up broken.

She forgets we're not driving a 4x4 anymore :{

my trucks an 03 and has always gotten bad fuel mileage, around 15. 7 mpg city/highway (empty). When I took off the airdam I also had a 2 inch lift put on and bigger tires so its hard to pinpoint what each modification did for fuel mileage.

its a towing thing. It creates low pressure below engine bay for better air flow for the radiator and eleminate hot spots in engine compartment. Some of the older trucks , before air dams, air flow would packup in engine compartment caused by high pressure air flow under truck. There on our trucks for a reason... ..... JIM

Lucky for you guys they were not a sport model. :{ :{ :{ 600. 00 for a new. The facia on mine. The weather was so cold I just BRUSHED a snow pill and cracked the dam thing to pieces. . :--) Sucks to be cold.
