What's the worst thing you've had Fall off a trailer?

Limited slip differentials?

Greetings folks,

I have a question that may or may not be picky on my part. Due to the hauling I do (fifth wheel-2 horses), my rear tires wear much faster than my front. If fact, I'm about at the "replace" point on the four rear tires, and the front are almost looking new. Is there something I need to worry about when using 4 wheel drive when there is a difference in wear between the front and back? I worry about the diameter of the tire difference.

As long as you don't run 4x4 on dry pavement etc it should be no problem. Some will say that it will bind up the transfer case, but the differentials should take care of most of it, and tire slippage the rest. If you get onto something hard before disengaging 4x4 you may have to back up before you can move the lever back to 2wd.

Mark:
I think the only thing you can do is rotate the tires and let'm wear. I have about the same truck and my wear is around 70,000 miles rotating the tires. Tire pressure stays at 55lbs, front and back all the time.
This the only thing I do and feel I get pretty good milage. I do tow two trailers, each around 10,000.

Good luck. #ad

I quit rotateing tires on my duallys years ago. The rears go first,I think due to hopping with a empty trailer, but the fronts aren't usually far behind. Rotateing duallys is just too much work for extra miles you might squeeze out of a set of tires. My . 02

turbo thom,
How in the h*ll do you get 70000
miles out of a set of tires? I got 38000 out of my 1st set of Michelin's & I have 22000
on a set of Uniroyal's & they will need replaced in the 5000 miles. I rotate every 5000 & because I have aluminum wheels it costs me $50 each time.

Rick, you're getting the wrong kind, the Toyos on my 2500 have 80k and look good for 20 more. Rotate at 5k,and don't burn rubber. Siping helps tremendously.

Got 84,000 out of the goodyear wranglers that came on my 97' Dodge. Switched to Kumho's, 1st set went 109,000, put Kumho's on again. This 2nd set has 82,000 , should hit 100,000 on them before time to replace.
On the Goodyear I ran 60 psi, check them once a week, rotate every 10,000 miles. Kumho's I run 65 psi, check pressure once a week and rotate every 10,000 miles. The 97' Dodge has 275,000 miles on it and its on the 3rd set of tire's. Run 235/85/16 Load range E.
Have a total of 24 tires to maintain, switched to Kumho's on everything and have ZERO complaints, these have been excellent tires.
50. 00 for a rotation???? WOW, that is high. Get mine rotated for 12. 50 at the local Exxon.

Illflem,which Toyo's do you run?M54 or M55

Large Car,which Kuhmo's do you use?I'm not very familar with them. It costs me $50 bucks
to rotate 'cause I have aluminum wheel's &
they have to dismount $ mount & re-balance
4 tires each time.
Thanks & HAPPY HOLLIDAYS

Rick, the Kumho's I run do not have a tire "model" name/number on the tire, I. E. "goodyear wrangler".
They are more of a highway tread radial, KUMHO in big letter's around the sidewall. I get them from a co. called Treadco. They are a nation wide truck tire distributor, they mainly handle Big truck tires, but do carry the 16" tires. A set of 6 tires mounted, balanced, out the door runs me $564. 00
Kumho's are more popular in the big rig tire market. Thats where I became aware the Kumho brand, always had good service from these tires.
hope this helps

I'm switching to a highway tread on mine. I usually run all terrains but this truck eats em! I MIGHT get 20,000 miles on the back tires. The fronts will look like new but the backs will suck. Hoping the highway tread helps #ad

Hey guys, I it is called friction. There is more friction on the back tires than on the front. When you increase the weight in the bed or pull a load the friction is greater, not to mention the heat build up. Naturally the tire is going to wear faster under these conditions. I have a little over 15,000 miles on the factory tires, Michelin AS load range E and they still look very good. I expect to get about 60,000 out of them.
