Hey, guys

Can anyone tell me what size socket I need to remove the front axle nut on a '96 4-wheel drive truck? What is the tightening torque when reinstalling the nut?

Thanks, DaveOo. Oo.

You need a 1-11/16" socket of either a 3/4" or 1" drive. I use a 6" extension supported with a jack stand and a 3 foot cheater bar that I have to stand/bounce on to get them loose. If you have not fitured it out yet leave the tire on and the truck on the ground.

and again have fun, have seen breaker bars break, gotta love the lifetime warranty.

if you have the time soak the nut a few times before.

I broke my 1/2" breaker bar when I did my ball joints. Plan to have a 3/4" breaker bar or a couple of 1/2" ones around. My 660 lbft IR impact got it off though ;-)
