What causes this? Never seen it before...

Note: not my truck. It's from a local listing on Facebook Marketplace.

Hard off road use with no truss, there is a reason why Thuren and Carli sell axle truss's , I have personally seen about 8 break like that.
Looks pretty stock underneath to me, I wanna say its a Y link but not clear from the picture. Could rust be a factor? looks like a clean disconnect on the passenger side axle tube.

Most the ones I seen break were pretty stock and people thought suspension didint matter, that passenger tire looks to be air down so they might have been playing in sand. It is Y link as the T style used a damper clamp, the Y style had the stud through the tie rod as seen in the pic.

Those Rosette welds are very weak, it takes less force then you would think to pull a tube out of the diff housing.

Thumbs up for a Truss from my side, I paid the price.
Non HD users could just weld the axle tubes to the pumpkin to avoid this scenario above.

Hard off roading! look at dents in the oil pan! Surprised the engine didn't let go before the axle gave out!
